Different languages change names, and Those areas, aren't really Christian anymore. There are a lot of Jewish, and Muslim Faiths around there now. Not to mention that names change over the centuries, and it was only in the new testament that names like Matthew ,mark, Luke ,and John came about.

Because people in biblical lands are Semites -- they speak Semitic languages, not English. You may be surprised to know that even your "New" Testament wasn't written in English. It has been translated from Aramaic to Greek, to Latin, and into other languages all over the world.

Your question is like asking why Christians in English-speaking countries don't call God "Allah."

Christians in these countries do actually have Christian names, usually in their local language , for example in Palestine (the holy land) Christians got names such as: Luca (Luke),George,Elias (Elijah), Matta (Matthew), Nicola (Nicolas),Jack. etc

But Christians in biblical counties are now minorities, after Arabs occupied these lands, so that's why you don't have much of these names. Arabs forced their language on the lands they occupied (Syria,Lebanon,Palestine,Egypt).

I hope this is hopeful.

natalie, you are reading an English translation. The names you read in your Bible are not even the real names they were originally called by. The translators changed these names to make it easier for English speaking people to pronounce.

Did you know the very English name of "Jesus" is only about 500 years old. His true Hebraic name is Yeshua.
They would really be offended by trying to suggest we change their cultural heritage by using English names. Lampoons point is excellent.
Blessings.

because matthew, mark and luke are not biblical names
those are the english translation of their hebrew/greek name
just like Jesus isnt the name he was called by

The Jewish community has claimed the name of Jesus in Hebrew is Yeshu
and sometimes spell it as Yehoshua with five letters

Because the people who live in these lands don't use the anglicized form of their name. There may for example be Matthias, Marcos, Luc and Johannes, but of course it depends whether their father and mother has in fact read the Bible as we know it, or are of another faith which may use the Koran for example, and of course it depends on which language they use.
