I would like to go to the Air force in Colorado or the Navy academy in Virgina. (Citadel I think) I don't plan on joining the military though. Does that matter?

Thank you for your answers.

Have a Blessed God filled Day!

if you have no intention of serving in the military, you cannot attend the AF Academy. as for what grades to you need to get into VMI or the Citadel, well, that's a question for the college itself.

US Military, Naval, Air Force and Coast Guard academies require 5 yrs service as an officer after graduation. Some require some level of enlisted (non-officer) service if you flunk out after 2 years attendance.

The Citadel is a private military academy. Not sure about any active duty requirement there.

God grades are a must, congressmen letter, good physical ability, some sports, some leadership, no serious injury that would disqualify you from the military. But why would you try out for these military academies when after the third year you are required to sign a paper that states you will serve the military branch for a minimum of 5 years active duty?

No matter if you go to a military academy, they are going to teach military life. If you want to go to the Air Force academy, you need to have from a governor a letter that shows that you are interested in attending there. Get good grades, and you will be ready to go.

4.0 GPA, Captain of the Football Team, Editor of your School newspaper or year book. Recommendations from civic leaders, congressmen and US senators, etc. That is the type of competition that you'll be facing when applying for any service academy. They get the cream of the crop nationwide. Oh by the way the things that I described this is just for one person. You can not attend any of these places unless you serve on active duty for so many years.
