Consider: if a terrorist was caught after a heinous act that led to the loss of thousands of lives…what would think about a judge saying, “No big deal – you are free to go.”

People would be furious and picket the courthouse demanding JUSTICE!
-
Furthermore, many non-Christians are “furious” about all the evil and atrocities that occur in the world…and use this as a reason to NOT believe that God exists…i.e. “If God exists, then why did this or that happen?”!

…and yet, you even bring up the word “Hell”…and these same people get angry!

-
Here is a paradigm shift for you:
If God were only JUST…then all of us would go to hell.

Yet, God is also merciful, gracious, and loving. So much so, He sent His Son Jesus Christ, that WHOEVER believes in Him shall not perish, but have eternal life!

WHOEVER.

That is, ANYBODY can accept His gift of salvation.

Don’t you think that is the exact opposite of an evil tyrant?
Don’t you see that that He is amazingly gracious instead?

I would think only an evil entity would "give" His son, in the sense that the Christian God gave his. But to what or whom was Jesus "given", and how does that work to provide mortals with eternal life? I wouldn't immediately refuse to believe in Christianity if any of this made sense at all, but it just doesn't make sense. It's not logical, and really goes far beyond the bounds of I'm able to accept in faith.

I'm sorry, but if there was a God, and he was going to zap us into Hell simply for not BELIEVING in him, (not because we were terrible people, or did anything horrible that warranted eternal torture in a fiery pit) then he's a tyrant. Damning someone to eternal torture for simply not believing in you is by NO stretch of the imagination "gracious".

Atheists do not become atheists because of the bad in the world. If you're just upset about the bad things going on in the world, then you're not an atheist, you're just mad at God. We don't believe in God because there's no reason to believe in magical, supernatural beings for which there is no evidence.

And did I hear you right? You did NOT just compare us to terrorists. "if a terrorist was caught after a heinous act that led to the loss of thousands of lives…what would think about a judge saying, 'No big deal – you are free to go.'" Not believing in God is **NOT** equivalent to performing a heinous terrorist act! What the h*** is WRONG with you to suggest that God should judge us the same way we would judge someone who did a heinous terrorist act?

Because all those people turned their backs on Him. Look around you and see the same thing. It is written and it will get a lot worse than it is now. I hope that you can get to a place to understand the truth. Christ died for everyone. I had hate and ignorance against God myself but until I gave Him a good chance with an open mind so I could see for myself if all this was true. I found that it was and the rest is history. Give Him 21 days is all I ask. Read 1 chapter a day from the book of John. 21 days.

Personally I believe in God, I am not religious but I have respect for him. I can't really understand why you would bring this up, just so you know not many people think God is an evil tyrant looking to zap. God is all good, but we are put on this Earth for a reason and that is to learn. We are not going to learn if bad things or mistakes do not occur. You are right God does not hate the people who do not believe in him. This is a country of freedom of speech and people have the right to believe in what they want to believe or not believe in. Terrists is a different story. They are evil, and terrible in so many ways. Anyways, to answer your question yes it is the opposite of an evil tyrant. Yes, God is gracious. Honestly I don't really know why you are so offensive on this topic, but just be happy your alive and you know you love God and he loves you.

Analogies are not applicable with god.

Look up the definition of "all-powerful" and "analogy" and you will understand why.

So, to answer your main question. Atheists are well aware god is not anything but a figment of someone's imagination. You are confusing angry x-Christians for non-Christians.

You should also look up the definition for paradigm and you will find that also is not useful in describing an all-powerful being.

God is the Most Merciful, Most Glorious, Most Loving, Most Kind, Most Benevolent, Most Caring, and Most Gracious.

He forgives when you ask forgiveness. You don't have to nail someone to the cross to receive His forgiveness and because of His Love, you don't have to kill someone in the cross to have His Grace.

God's love is eternal, pure, limitless and unconditional. Why would we define His love through HUMAN SACRIFICE!!! God is not a barbaric, cruel and evil that He needs the blood of an innocent man as a human sacrifice for Him to accept our repentance.

My God is like that...how about yours?

I think Yahoo Answers should remove the Religion category, because it is just an extension of the BS that was going on in the Yahoo Message boards. There is nothing useful about the questions and answers in this category but to point the finger in one way or the other, and I personally fault both sides for condemning and harassing the other.

While this section would be great for those who truly want to know about the religions of the world and what different individuals believe in (or not believe in) and truly educate everyone else, few, if anyone is truly interested in that. It is truly a shame.

If your god actually existed, he would be an evil tyrant for making rules that violate the nature he put into us, and then demanding we abide by them without bothering to provide any credible means of even knowing his will.

The Bible is just a collection of ancient books written in a superstitious age.

Many people's understanding of God is flawed. He *is* amazingly gracious and merciful.
