I would first wish to be Arabic if I lived in the middle east. Having said that, I would want to live in the weird little country of Yemen. Particularly in North Yemen, in Sana. The pictures I have seen of this ancient city are amazing. I know this region has a lot of poverty, but it is as though time stood still. I would want to be able to work until noon everyday, and then chew Qat for the rest of the day. Read the book Motoring with Mohammad, Journeys to Yemen and the Red Sea, by Eric Hansen. It is an incredible look into the lives of a time forgotten people.

Bahrain or U.A.E. I always thought of Bahrain as the Las Vegas of the Middle East. Seems like that is where all the middle easterners go to break thier own rules. Party, drink, gamble etc.

If I have a choice I would not live outside the USA. I was stationed in West Germany for 3 years. It was nice but nothing beats the United States.

The scenery of Dubai (magical)...or Amman in Jordon (buzzing)....had my hols there...people are over friendly (something which is so rare here, which i have found some tourist saying sadly)..welcoming..helpful..locals really go out of their way to impress you with their broken English and try sooo hard at it too...if i had the choice to give up my birth country of England..i'd hope to settle there .

Bahrain - alcohol & naughty women
Egypt - cheapest by far
Dubai [United Arab Emirates] - too expensive
Oman - not to most european standards
Saudi Arabia - strict rules for females
Yemen - too many extremists
Kuwait - too close to Iraq - insurgents popping across the border to hide
Iran - yeah right - get real
