it just keeps getting worse and i have had it for about 4 years...i have it on the bottoms of my hands and the bottoms of my feet. it wasnt that bad until my sister and i got into a severe fight to the point that she hated me for 6 months, but now that we are good again its getting better.....is there any way to take it off of my hands at least because i hate having to shake hands and things with people becusae the dreaded question "EW!!! what happened to your hands?!!?" always comes up and people stare and it makes me feel so different.. also, i am very pretty((not concieted though)) but i am always scared to like a boy because i know that if he asks me to be his girlfriend or something and would want to hold my hand i wouldnt know what to do because he would think its contagious or something && it disfigures my nails so i cant go to the salon and get manicures or pedicures and stuff...so anyways, is there anyway to take it off of atleast my hands and would you care if your girlfriend

You just reminded me of what I went through, I am now 49!
Yes the horrors of Psoriasis, boys, dating, feeling self-conscious and yes Sisters, well one in my case who does not have Psoriasis, neither do my two older brothers!
First you may like to know that in 1998 I saw a Doctors who suggested I take 'Evening Primrose Oil' and I went Yeah like what is that supposed to do? However I had reached the end of my tether, had nothing to loose, so took it. Six months later slowly and it was slow the Psoriasis started to clear! In fact year on it cleared from various parts of my body and now it has almost gone. I am so used to having it now, will be a shock to be normal! The sun light never worked on me, tried it every year and zero. Likewise many of the creams failed although the new Dovobet is excellent but I apply it once a week if you are lucky. Yes at 36 I was in a Social situation, surrounded by Gals and I just KNEW the topic would come up, as it always does. Just before the end of the evening one brave female said 'What is that on your hands?' I replied 'You know that new expensive exfoliating cream, advertised on the TV' she said 'YES' I then added, 'Well I do not need it, I exfoliate naturally!' Tell you she was extremely impressed along with the other Gals, all younger than me. I expect they went home, locked themselves in their bedrooms and tried exfoliating naturally, probably still their! Two years ago I took up Aqua Jogging and the same question, before that I went to Pilates again the same question. At my age I think I am UNIQUE, as people always ask, so I must be UNIQUE. Boys/Men, well if they every watched 'Singing Detective' chances are they will be after you in droves, so be careful, as they were after me. I am different, I am unique and I am proud to be different and unique, who wants to be plain old normal?

I had a 13 year history of psoriasis, though I was in good health otherwise. But these severe large, thick and scaly excoriated plaques on my neck, ears, trunk and limbs ruined the way I was leading my life. I would be with red, inflamed itchy skin for most part of the year and these silvery scales would seem to be erupting without any reason. To make matters worse, blisters would appear over already red and itching skin. It was living hell.

I was treated with various options but nothing seemed to be working. Some of the treatments that I underwent in this depressing period of 13 years included tar preparation, tropical steroids and anthralin. I was also given light therapy many times but everything I tried would give me temporary relief.

And soon, after a few days I would be plagued with the situation again. In one of those moments when I was completely lost I stumbled upon this website just by chance. I read it and felt that as if someone had put the story my life on this web page. I was thoroughly convinced that if ANYONE can cure me of condition, it would be you.

And was I right, or what. I started recovering within 3 days of starting this treatment. Something that had become a painful part of me for 13 years was actually getting healed! My ears are healed and my neck is smooth again!. I am a month into the treatment and I have never felt better in my life!

If you haven't been to a dermatologist (skin doctor), I'd suggest you do so. There are medications that are especially designed to treat psoriasis. While they don't actually cure it, it can be made much less noticeable, and in some cases, it will be kept under control as long as you keep on the medicine.

I know this is a tough situation, especially for a young girl. But I think if you get the right treatment, you'll be a lot less self conscious, and can concentrate on having fun, instead of the psoriasis lesions. Emotional trauma can make the situation worse, so try not to get too stressed about things. (Easier said than done, I know). Also, they say that sun exposure helps to dry up the sores. See a skin specialist! You'll be glad you did.

Today, there are many different treatments to help control psoriasis. Some can be found over the counter at a drugstore, while others require a prescription from your doctor.
No single treatment works for everyone. The goal is to find a treatment that works the best with the fewest side effects. Your doctor will look at what kind of psoriasis you have and recommend the treatment regimen that is best for you

hi. i'm a 41 year old man ,divorced living with severe chronic psoriasis & i'm very self-conscious about the way its made me look. i have a dermatologist who prescribed me methotrexate(original use anti-cancer medicine). in low dosages its used now to treat patients with psoriasis. the medicine has some very nasty side effects i will warn you of that. check with your local dermatologist to see what she/he suggests is in the best interest for you. i shouldn't give medical advice here as i'm not a doctor but what i can tell you is that methotrexate does work for me when nothing else worked & failed to help me. a great website i use personally for info on psoriasis for myself is :http://www.psoriasis.org/home/
there's a section listed all about dating that i think you'll find useful

my psoriasis has been so severe the last 4 summers that i've hardly left my apartment unless i;ve absoultely had to. i isolated myself day & night . i was married for 4 years up until my divorce this past february 2007. my wife who i was married to for 4 years understood my skin condition & accepted it for what it was & myself.she helped me for the longest time & did a lot of medical research to get me the help i needed to treat it. now because of major depression that i;ve had since i was a child my psoriasis has worsened again. its annoying & a real pain in the butt but i still treat it with ther oral medication no matter what the nasty side effects are. so i know, understand & feel your emotional stress, pain & mental health problems that may be playing into your psoriasis. i wish you the best . take care.

Poor love, i know other people with psoriasis and its a drag. I'm lucky and only get it on my scalp.
Apart from steroid creams prescibed by your doctor, you could try a good aloe vera cream. i ccant recommend one, but your local health shop can.
if you are still scabby when you have your dance, i would suggest you wear flesh coloured tights to cover your legs and feet and long white gloves with a long dress to cover your arms and hands. (like they used to wear in the movies).
When you get a boyfriend who is mature enough he will understand about your psoriasis and see beyond it.
