the boxer is 4 yrs old and the black lab is almost 3 yrs old, i've both from pups on. both are house dogs and get along rather well til resently. there fights start with a growl then all heck breaks loose. the lab is now bigger than the boxer (all over). if it happens in the house the lab will go to his crate and the boxer will go at him. i don't want to give up either of my babies but i need to stop it before it gets any worse.....
any suggestions. also i live in the country so they do get alot of exersize, only in crates while i'm at work and at night, other than that they can do what ever they want (inside or out).

OK, dogs fight with other dogs for many reason. Some times it has to do with fear, and other times it has more to do with which dog is the top dog. Make a lot of noise, like get a empty pop can and put pennies in it and shake it if they start. The whole point of this is to startle the animals. If you touch them it is likely for you to get bitten as well, so try the loud noises. If it doesn't work try something more intense. You don't want to hurt them, that makes dogs more mean, you just need to startle them. If they haven't been fixed, that may help too because no dog will have the male parts. so, they won't be as competitive with each other. I would try with the can. You're lab is going to the cage because that's where he feels safe. i wouldn't let the boxer near the labs crate. That's it's safe place, the place where nothing should be able to hurt him. If he starts to feel unsafe there he will start to feel unsafe in the house. You could also get a bike horn if the cans don't work. Usually, the dog will hear the noise and stop because it's a startling noise. It doesn't hurt them. That's the best i can do for you. You may try putting the boxer in it's crate too. But I'm not sure how the dog would take it, sometime the dogs take it as a reward for the behavior, because you are putting them into a place where they feel comforted. Just don't let the boxer enter the labs crate.
