Among the things that I we decided we would bring to our dorm, i brought the tv, dvd player, and vacumn while she brought the microwave, and frige.

I don't do anything in my room except for sleeping and changing my clothes--basic stuff. She however, is in there all the time.

I don't see the point in vacumning a couple times a week but She likes to vacumn A LOT and she sheds a lot too--her trash is full of hair (gross i know) but she's complaining that the vacumn is not working and that i should get a new one. I know that it's just clogged although i just emptied it last week--so it must be the brush.

So my question is, who should be responsible for cleaning it?

compromising is not a solution with her. She's rude and inconsiderate. I tell her that something bothers me (like turning on her hip-hop music and the tv on while i'm trying to sleep and have work the next day) and she still does it. The last time I had a conversation between me her and the RA, she was walking around the room cleaning things up...while we are trying to talk and compromise...

it isn't a pleasant relationship and I didn't ask her to vacumn that much...i don't mind doing the vacumning it only take 5 min.

Each of you should clean it after you use it. If she is using it frequently, she'll be cleaning it often as well. That way, it will be clean and ready to go no matter who used it last, and who is using it next.

Well I would say that she would have to, because she was the one who did it and uses it the most, but I'm sure that she wants you to since it's your vacuum. I'd say clean it together, just so you guys dont point blame and start off on a rough start and then take turns vacuuming, like you vacuum Sunday, and she can vacuum Wednesday or something. Just come to an agreement so you won't have to worry about who has to do what. And empty the vacuum/clean it after each time and you wont have this confusion

Hello All-Nighter,

I highly recomend for you to simply clean the vacuum cleaner.

Ruining a pleasant relationship with your dorm roommate can produce additional stress and unpleasant drama with your dorm roommate, which could cause you to earn you lower grades on your report card.

Look at the bright side, at least your dorm roommate is the one doing ALL of the vacuuming, while you are out there socializing with your college peers.

-Peace,
Mauricio

A clean vacuum works better. I'd say if you want the room to look nice, just clean it. And since it's yours, she might not know how to do it anyway (as evidenced by the fact that she apparently thinks it's broken). Why don't you do it, but show her how, so she'll be able to do it herself next time?

P.S. My understanding is that losing a lot of hair is a sign of Vitamin K deficiency. Your roommate might be ill.

Work out a solution that will work for both of you, regardless of who paid for the appliance. Part of college living is learning to work with other people and to compromise, and you can be doing this too. You are being prepared for adulthood. Do something now that will make you both proud of your abilities to do something of mutual benefit to both of you.

If the vacuum isn't working properly, and you can't decide who should be responsible for keeping it working and cleaning it, get rid of it and replace it with a broom and dustpan.

Whoever uses it more. If you talk to her nicely and she won't listen, maybe you should advise her to get her own vaccuum. If she won't buy, then show her that her hair is clogging it up. If she still won't change the vaccuum filter or bag or whatever and you have tried everything, maybe you should request another roommate.

Every time it's used it should be cleaned before it's put away. Therefore, the person using it should clean it.

vacumn is spelled vacUUm, not vacumn. And take turns.

The person who uses it should clean it, if she doesn't like it, then get rid of it and she can get her own.
