She will drink a full bowl of water and still acts like she is dying of thirst. This is a constant all day thing, and when she urinates its in a very large amount. Is this normal? If not what's wrong and what should I do?

Im afraid that it's not just because of her needing help with the milk. She had the puppies 3 weeks ago and when i take her outside she starts chewing on the dirt and on wood. I dont know if her body is lacking a mineral or what. Also she did not engage in these behaviors before the puppies.

I do not believe this is normal. She should drink a lot, but not a whole bowl at a time. I would call your vet asap. Also, if it's very hot weather, this MIGHT have some bearing on it, but I would still call. It's better to be safe than sorry. Also, you really don't say how long it's been,,hours, days or weeks. Also could be a sign of sugar diabetes,,,just call the vet!

This is not always normal. she needs all the water she can drink to make milk for the pups and to keep her system free of impurities. But if she is drinking excessivly than have her vet checked as soon as you can.
If she is acting fine other wise than let her drink all the water she wants. The more she gets the better her milk supply.

Yes this is very normal...dogs have ways of treating themselves...she's drinking alot of water because she just gave birth and needs to regain her strength and repair damaged parts of her body....though go to the vet just to make sure...it's better safe than sorry.

Mom and pups should be getting a post-natal vet visit ASAP anyway, so have the vet check it out while you're there.

Replacing what shes giving, it's good that she is drinking a lot. And the urinating is OK too. I just typed in nursing dogs says be sure mom dog gets lots of water...Please go to nursing dogs! No need to panic. Read it for you self please.

It is NOT normal, she is depleted and dehydrated to be drinking that much with insatiable thirst.
Try giving her some sports ade drink (like Gatorade) to bring up her electrolytes in blood /system, it may quench her some.
But take to vet, the mom and the pups.
[pls. spay your female in a couple mths.]

I think that you should just feed it one glass of water.Because its like if you feed your dog too many bones or biscutes it wont stop eating. So I would just give it a bowl a water shes not really dying of thirst she just wants more and thats not good.
