Unfortunately there aren’t many Chinese schools in that area at all.

However, if you are willing to go out on a limb, you could try something a little different.

I have studied Martial arts most of my life. (better then 30 years.) I have studied a few Chinese martial arts in that time, including have a teaching certificate in Lung Feng Chuan, a traditional Chinese martial art. I have also studies Wing Chung and Hsing-i Chuan (Xingyiquan).

I am currently working on a black belt in the Korean martial art of Tang Soo Do with the World Tang Soo Do Association. It should be noted that if you were to go to the Shaolin temple, you would find a monument dedicated by the World Tang Soo Do Association to the monks of Shaolin. Grand Master Jae Chul Shin, the founder and President of the World Tang Soo Do Association was invited personally by the monks of Shaolin to visit their temple. This was the first time that this had ever happened, and as far as I know, the only time. One of the reason is that Tang Soo Do incorporates a great deal of Chinese movement and philosophy into it's techniques. Even some of their forms are rotted in Shaolin Kung fu. I am not familiar with the instructor in your area so I don’t know how good he is, but There is a World Tang Soo Do Association school in Little Falls. (Tang Soo Do Central New York, 315-823-0855) I would look it up and give it a chance. Your only other real choice is to go into New York City, but that is a LONG haul for you, I would guess between 140 and 150 miles each way.

If you aren’t willing to go to NY, I would try Little Falls. Tang Soo Do is a great art and Master Shin is a great teacher. He also teaches Ki Gong (Korean Chi Gong) and has a club you can join for that. There are seminars in PA a few times a year and t's great practice. The school is on Albany St.

I hope this helps.

The only Shaolin schools worth anyone's time are the temples in Northern and Southern China. Simply because of their extremely harsh training and life devotion to the art. Plus the awesome medicines and iron body training.
