I want to volunteer at my animal shelter, and would be a teen volunteer. I get attached to animals way too easily and would want to take them all home. I was wondering if there were any jobs where I wouldn't actually have to interact with the animals? I love them and want to help, but I'm afraid of getting too close, because it's my nature. Should I just go somewhere else to volunteer, like an animal sanctuary?

I know I can't take them all home, I already have a dog who is spoiled and demands my every free moment to be dedicated to her, and the fact my step-dad believes a dogs place is outside, in a doghouse, on a chain (we've gotten into heated arguments over my dog about this) I just feel a need to help the animals because they can't help themselves very well. Any ideas on other places to volunteer?

It is hard to advise you without knowing where you are located, but most animal shelters have other volunteer needs in addition to caring for animals, especially fund raising.

You could also volunteer online. Here are a bunch of "virtual volunteer" opportunities for Animals at Volunteer Match:

I did work at a shelter. But unless you work in the office you probably will be seeing the animals, and even then you probably will be seeing them. It could be upsetting if you become attached to them easily.

I think volunteering at a sanctuary is a great idea. Good for you.

That acually sounds like a ton of fun!
Maybe you could go like only every saturday or something!
I'll ask a few of my friends if maybe we can go help out at an animal shelter! LOL
But as for you trust me, you should intearact with the animals becuase they are so much fun and really cute, and later on you'll know you did a good thing for them and you'll be really proud of yourself!

I was just like you, but trust me, it won't end up with you taking them all home. You litterally can't. What you WILL do is try as hard as you can to find them homes with people who can take them home, which they all need.
