Him: Hey
Me: Hi
Him: What's up?
Me: Nothing much, you?
Him: Same
and then randomly be like so what classes are you in or have you seen this movie like most people say to talk about? Help!

talk to him like you would talk to anyone else
just act like you don't like him likes he's someone else

Music, sports, and things they like to do in free time. Most times saying stuff that has been used to death is used because it works. For example, you hear people going, "Hey baby wanna go to my place," when they meet them because it doesnt work (and they would get slapped or kicked in the nuts). Anyway, casual stuff is the best way to go. Good luck!
