You know how people get calluses on their feet? I think the same thing happens to cats, and that's what you're seeing. Cats don't always have a soft carpet to walk on, so I'm sure going in the litter box or walking on hard floors or concrete is hard on their paw pads.

Vets will usually check a cat's paws during routine check-ups, but if it's something that concerns you or if you see his paws getting worse, ask your vet and I'm sure they'll have some suggestions that will help you.

Good luck!

They can get very dry skin just like we do, and I've seen this also on cats who spend time on concrete or asphalt, the stuff roughs up the bottom of their paw pads.

You can rub a little vasoline on them, or a little vegetable oil and blot the excess with a paper napkin. I'd also get some Derm Caps ($9 for a one month supply, from the vets) or add 1 caplet of flax oil or primrose oil to the food twice a week. Don't overdo it with oil on the food, they only need a little.

I've seen this on my cats (who are all outdoor cats, I don't know if that makes a difference). I think it's just dead skin peeling off. If it's not bleeding and there's no pain, it shouldn't be anything serious.

He could have been stepping on something hard like rocks and made a hole where they peel from. Take him to the vet that will help.
