Truly, it is a debatable topic. There are several people that they are killing machines, some say they are loyal and cuddly pets. I will say that my friend has one and it is a very friendly dog and loves everyone and everything. I do not think that they are inheretly dangerous. Of course, there are thousands of chihahuas and yorkies that would take your head off if they were the size of a pitbull. Because they are such muscular and massive dogs, they have more potential to do more damage than smaller dogs.
Of course, you know about the horrible sport of dogfighting, where people use their size and tenacity and turn it into a violent thing. Those dogs, of course, are a danger and should be either put down or kept away from everything else for their safety and everyone elses.
Many people take on a pitbull puppy, unaware of their level of energy, need for exercise, and need for a dominant and assertive owner. Without these things, their boredom, dominance, and energy can manifest is something such as aggression.
The breed of cog does not effect their temperament-their owner's attitude does.
I know plenty of people that have had pitbulls, taken them into their family, not given them exercise, not practiced dominance over them, and the dogs turn into aggressive nd unbalanced pets. But I do know many people that have taken them into their family, and they are completely submissive to the owner, and they are non-aggressive friends. They do need alot of exercise and a very dominant and high energy owner. They are actually some of the nicest dogs I have met. They just have a bad reputation.

Some yes and most no.

Pit Bulls can be inherently dangerous like any other breed, due to poor breeding. You breed man biters you can get man biters. You breed fear aggressive dogs who may bite/attack you get more shy, scared fear aggressive dogs. You breed a dog that has a dominance aggression issue by nature you get the same. You breed a dog with an off temperament you get an off temperament.

Lack of training, socialization, ect can lead to dangerous dogs too. Again this is in all breeds. Training and socialization is so important. Most dogs with bad temperaments are owned by lazy or careless owners. A lot of these owners also get dogs from puppy mills or bybs and this combination of bad breeder and bad owner make a dangerous dogs.

Most APBTs are inherently friendly as they have been bred for 100s of years to be people friendly and loving breed.

In response to people saying that the fighting dogs are the dangerous ones, you are wrong. That is another mis-conception put out by the media. I AM NOT sticking up for people who still fight dogs, but I will say this: People bred fighting APBTs for over a hundred years, they were in the pit with them during matches, and had to handle the opposing guys dog. If fighting pits made them mean, how did dogmen handle strange pit dogs?

Now that's out of the way, no American Pit Bull Terriers are sweet loving companions as long as they are bred from temperamentally sound animals. The problem with all of the hysteria is the fact that:

1. The media uses the term "Pitbull" as a cash crop, and labels any dog that resembles an APBT as a "Pitbull" whether they even have APBT in them or not.

2. Backyard Breeders who have no business owning these dogs have been breeding poor quality dogs to each other to produce even poorer quality dogs, just so they can make money.

3. Rappers portray them as "Ghetto Dogs" and show them off aggressively.

4.PETA has everyone brainwashed, when the truth is they take your "unwanted pit" euthanize it, and toss it in a dumpster, all with the intentions of making "pitbulls" extinct.

5. People don't realize the need to keep their dog secured on a chain, leash, or behind a fence at all times. This goes for ALL breeds.

I hope I helped answer your question.

Inherently aggressive, no, i do no longer think of that they might purely attack somebody, no longer till they're knowledgeable to be that way. specific canines have extra aggresive features. this is purely a breed trait. risky, specific. Any canines could nicely be risky. they're animals, after all. they are able to all be provoked to chew in some concern as an occasion the canines is injury and somebody touches it incorrect. the threat lies in the potential that the canines have. A Chihuahua, if he gets ticked off, will inflict plenty much less harm than a bigger canines, like a pit bull. i for my section does not be gentle with a pit bull around my infants, or a doberman, or chow, or relatively any of the shelter-canines sort great canines. They have been bred for their extra aggressive nature to guard factors. that's no longer the fault of the canines, this is purely the reality of the concern. i think of any canines could nicely be a stable canines if knowledgeable right and the owner can administration him. the concern is there are multiple irresponsible canines vendors available that think of it relatively is gorgeous that their canines bares his teeth at somebody or canines that passes by. The get the canines via fact of their undesirable popularity and that they practice them to be much extra aggressive than they in many cases may be.

A study published in the Journal of the American Veterinary Medicine Association in September, 2000 reports that in the 20 years studied (1979 to 1998) "Pit-bull type dogs" and Rottweilers were involved in one half of dog bite related fatalities in the US[2]. Another study of American and Canadian dog bite related fatalities from September 1982 to November 2006 produced similar results, reporting that Pit bulls, Rottweilers, Presa Canarios and their mixes were responsible for 65% fatal dog attacks[3]. This study also noted: "Of the breeds most often involved in incidents of sufficient severity to be listed, pit bull terriers are noteworthy for attacking adults almost as frequently as children." and "They are also notorious for attacking seemingly without warning, a tendency exacerbated by the custom of docking pit bulls' tails so that warning signals are not easily recognized

I worked in an animal shelter for over 25 years, animals become what they are taught,I've delt with many of Pits,in the shelter and friends that own them, most of the ones that came into the shelter we're ones that had already been taught to be aggressive, but pups are different,if they are raised right they can be very good dogs, that is with any breed

any dog can be trained to be mean. any dog who is beat, baited, and abused will be mean. In some breeds the male is more aggressive than the female, and vice versa. the answer is no. bull dogs are just powerful dogs that could hurt you if they wanted. so be nice to your dogs.

Pitbulls are naturally very friendly towards humans. Their innate aggression pertains to other dogs.

no, they aren't. pitbulls you hear about on tv, the ones that attack people, are mostly fighting dogs that were trained to attack things. pitbulls are chosen to fight because they are strong, but they really are just as loving as the next dog if you get one that isnt crossbred // former fighting dog. there will always be those dogs that are just mean, but those are in every breed, westies, shih tzu, labs, there will always be a chance that ANY breed will be mean but not all pitbulls are naturally mean or dangerous.
