The Islamic conquest at the time of Umar ibn al-Khattab [638 AD] put an end to centuries of instability, religious persecution, and colonial rule. After the advent of Islam, people enjoyed security, safety, and peace- with the exception of the period of the Crusades (1099-1198). There was scholarly activity on a wide scale. It was a center of learning from which a large number of scholars graduated. It enjoyed the care of the Khalifas and the Muslim rulers.

Jews returned to the City only when the Muslims took over and opened it to all believers. In other words, Jerusalem was not an exclusive city during Muslim rule. For example, the arrival of Umar in Jerusalem marked the start of a golden age and the beginning of a new era during which the City became an open city for all the nations, a city for justice and peace.

Umar was "faithful to the Islamic inclusive vision. Unlike the Jews and Christians, Muslims did not attempt to exclude others from Jerusalem's holiness" and instead of excluding these religions in Jerusalem, "Muslims were being taught to respect them.

"From the first, Muslims showed that the respect of sacred space did not have to mean conflict, enmity, killng, and exclusion of others...From the start, the Muslims developed an inclusive vision of Jerusalem which did not deny the presence and devotion of others, but respected their rights and celebtrated plurality and co-existence. This inclusive vision of holiness is sorely needed by the people of Jerusalem today." **

Muslims Ruled Jerusalem for over 1200 years and were able to establish peaceful co-existance between all the faiths.

Salahuddins recapturing of Jerusalem is infamous because of the Islamic forgiveness and amnesty he showed the Crusaders.

Its true that Jews were not allowed by the Christians to live in Jerusalem and the Jews were called God killers. When the crusaders invaded the city they killed 70000 Muslims and 100000 Jews.

At first, some minorites welcomed the Islamic invaders, but that didn't last, as non muslims were treated like second class citizens, to put it mildly. The Crudaser kingdoms were more just societies.
The Muslims faded Christians out by taxing them to extremes and forbidding baptism, not to mention numerous other restrictions. The more things change, the more they stay the same.
By the way, you question ignores the obvious fact that the Muslims INVADED.....how just and open of the people of peace.

The Christian kingdoms were divided because people who thought they knew better were disobeying their local bishop. The more things change.....

1000 years too late

Modern Islam would be the most tolerant if it permitted people to leave Islam as well as enter it and accepted equality of all religions and non religions under natural law
rather than Sharia which stricks me as primitive like a literal

Torah legal code as civil law.

Sharia will no longer work as civil law.

There is no one form of Islam and since the deathof Mohammed(PBUH) there has never been.

Would Muslims like to live a Dhimmi under Judaism or Christianity and be subjected to humiliations and special taxes and be not permitted to fill most impoartant roles, positions and posts in government and society?

Would Muslims tolerate the ban of Muslim men's marrying non Muslims? Or a ban on trying to convert non Muslims?
Would Muslim womwn enjoy being forced to wear what Jewish or christian women wear in the streets or muslims being forced to wear distinctive clothing or badges?

karen armsrong wrote those books because she was
angry at the catholic church and she has a right to be.
but uplifting Islam, a vicious religion, as loving, kind,
and gracious doesn't make her a historian. read accounts
for yourself outside of hers. their justice is a living
hell. ask those of whom they have beheaded on how loving
they are. ask the Kurds how kind they are.
trying reading real books not trash. hey become a reporter
and live among them yourself. get the real truth. then
come back and give the skinny. my niece was in the middle
east and she didn't share the warm fuzzies that karen gives!

VERY good point! There is no doubt that Islamic Law excels over any other law or set of rules. If following Islam, Muslims must be excellent neighbors and have good relations with all who are willing.
