my brother just put a new throttle position sensor in his pickup cause a mechanic told him to. now sometimes it idles really slow and stalls. i think that you can adjust the TPS but he said he put the new one on in the same exact position as the old one came off. with the old sensor it idled like it should but the engine was surging in cruise controll going down the road and i think thats why the mechanic told him to change the TPS. and the new TPS fixed the surging now it just won't idle right and stalls. Any suggestions?

you cannot install it wrong, and you cannot adjust it. all sensors read very slightly different. especially one that is 6 years old compared to a new one. the pcm knows what the minimum tps voltage was with the old sensor, thats how it knew when the throttle was closed. then you replaced the sensor, and the minimum voltage is now higher, and the pcm thinks the throttle is still open when its not, and the iac motor is raising the idle and the injector pulse widths are still higher because of the higher voltage. threee things to try. if you just keep driving it, it will eventually relearn itself, but its not that safe to drive around like that. you can try disconnecting that battery to reset the pcm memory. not 100% sure if that will work or not. last option is to go to a dealer and have them reset the minimum tps voltage with the scanner.

You may have had more than one problem at the time. Go to the parts store and buy a can of throttle body spray cleaner and spray down the throttle body and let it set about 30 minutes. Start it up clear out the excess and see if it idles better. If it dose not, You may need a new AIS (automatic idle speed )motor. Also make darn sure you didn't swap the PVC valve with an after market one. That will give you idle problems too.

The shaking may be a misfire. greater desirable than probably a bad plug or cord. i belive those have distributor caps, in the event that they do yo could desire a cap and rotor as properly. I forgot while the Dodges went removed from the vendors of their V-8's. the warm air could desire to be simply by an air lock on your cooling device. have you ever accomplished something on your radiator or the hoses these days? Is the resevoir finished while it fairly is cool or is it low. do no longer OPEN THE CAP while THE MOTOR IS warm! in case you have a bad coolant temp sensor, it could desire to be inflicting a coarse idle simply by fallacious gasoline air blend (working wealthy or lean while it won't be) yet i could pass with the fundamentals like the plugs, wires, dist cap and rotor first. i could additionally get the code study. that could desire to grant you an extraordinarily sturdy concept of what's no longer working miraculous. it could even clarify your subject till now even swapping any areas. another element...vacuum leak someplace. make confident your PCV tube is expounded. If that may no longer it, start up attempting to discover the hissing sound decrease than the hood and reconnect it. sturdy success!

Ok before anything be absolutely sure it was put back on exactly how it should, not upside down, wrong way round or gaskets/ seals wrong way round etc... very common error. Find pictures if you have to so you can be sure
