Crushes are fun, aren't they?
This is a good time for you to practice your boy to girl social skills.
First thing- It NEVER matters if someone is hot. What matters is you two like each other.
If anybody at school has anything to say at the beginning, they'll get over it. They are just trying to see if they can make you change your mind. It's a mean game that you'll see a lot in school.
Do not fall for it. It'll be over in a week at most. Stick to your guns.
Spend time just doing stuff together. No pressure. Just hang out and see how it goes.
Sometimes people around you, even your friends, try to start drama just because they are bored themselves and want an issue to give themselves something to do.
Just do what you believe is the RIGHT thing.
Good luck and have fun. Oh, and you are 12, so don't get all torn up if you and he don't work out..... It's about learning how to handle friendships at this point.

Wow, what a good thing you have going. You already know he likes you because he's your friend. He's behaving in every way like a friend, that is SO valuable! So many times when kids date, there is a romantic attraction, but no friendship, and the relationship can't last. The two naturally grow apart (and they find others with whom they have more in common, like friends). When it gets down to finding someone to stay with, to marry (one purpose of dating is to 'shop' for a suitable mate), what do we always hear? "Is he your best friend? Do you have things in common like friends do? Do you really just enjoy the other person for their company?"
I think what you have right now is something beautiful and wonderful, and it can grow as time passes. I think you could do nothing different in how you're getting along right now, and you'd still be happy. BUT, if you can't live without making a change...just politely 'spit it out', get it into the open. Find the most tactful (un-shocking) way you can of wording your feelings. Just tell him your feelings are growing and someday you want him to ask you out (or whatever, someday you'd like to date him).
This is never easy. The key is to think long enough about what you really want to happen, then take what steps you can to help it come about. Nothing, however (at 12 years old), is going to be worth making your parents angry. Search for balance between what you desire and what mom & dad have in mind for you. This is all experience in growing up, one day (waaay sooner than you feel it'll come) you'll be standing in front of the bathroom mirror and think, "Here I am, I'm not a kid any more" and you'll have the freedom to do any darn thing in the world you want. Let your parents guide and direct you until then.
I remember what 12 felt like, it's INTENSE!
I think what you have with your friend now is so totally valuable and beautiful, congratulations on life so far! You sound like a nice kid. Wishing happiness to you.
(ps/star for asking for help)

i don't think its very important to be dating at 12. that's cute that he shares candy. Just be really good friends, and in the future you guys can worry about dating.

if you really think that you guys could be boyfriend and girlfriend, then tell him, I tell the boys I really like that I like them. It would be like so romantic if you guys went on secret dates like in the book Gils out late. Like where you say you're going to after school homework help and you're really walking in the park with your boyfriend. It's not easy telling a boy thet you like him, but after you do, you feel good about yourself and you feel proud. You Go Girl
