I'd doing an art project based on war and I need other people's opinions on the subject. Also, when you answer if you could say whether or not you have been personally affected by war, that would be great!

War, sometimes is necessary, but should only be a final option after all other avenues are exhausted.

I have been personally affected by war. My husband is a US Marine and is currently serving his 4th tour in Iraq. He has been lucky and has survived this far without any severe injuries, but we know many who haven't been so fortunate.

I don't support war in Iraq and never have. I do, however, support the troops.

There is nothing pretty about a war. It depends on the war and why the war started in the first place.
I know without wars in the past evil dictators would not have been brought down, but then again even when an evil dictator is brought down, sometimes the after affects are far worse than the war, so then you could have a bigger war.
War is messy and war is violent.

War has it's purposes.

1. To calm the storm.
2. To control lands you did not have control over before.
3. To stop terrorism
4. To stop tyrrany.
5. To gain natural resources
6. Population control (?)
7. To right a wrong (slavery)
8. To maintain control of that which you like.
9. Remember the revolution war? To obtain freedom.

Everyone is affected by war in some personal way. I have not singularly been affected, but my 19 year old daughter saw men vaporize, saw children shot because they would not stop when ordered to, while carrying mysterious boxes, run from mortar fire weekly, be shot at by friendly fire while on patrol, which affected her (PTSD) and that in turn affected me....

I think that war has it's place, but they usually last too long. The only effective war was Desert Storm, which lasted just around 2 months. We got in, protected the innocent, and then got out again....

War is Hell.... but sometimes it is not what it is perceived.

Sometimes war is the only answer. There was no other option in WWII.

I served in Desert Storm. I work with several people that either are currently in Iraq, or have been there.

It is amazing that the media focuses on the people that oppose the war, and ignore those that support it.

Support the troops. However, also support those that are giving up just as much, the families of the troops.

I was at Pearl Harbor Dec 7, 1941, and in the front line infantry from France to Czechosolvakia. What do I think of war ? Sometimes it's the only way to settle disputes between countries. We had no choice. The Japs attacked us with the intention of putting Ameica under the thumb of Hirohito . Germany had the hope of owning the entire world. Hitler's promise , repeated in most of his speaches was , " Heute gehert uns Deutchland , morgan die ganse welt ".
( Today Germany belongs to us , tomorrow the whole world ")

Every nation in human history has been taken and held by force of arms. HELD being the key term. Societies exist because there is safety in numbers. The sense of security derived from society rests in it's ability to make war.

The only lasting peace is established and maintained thru superior firepower and the willingness of a people to fight for their freedom and security.

My uncle is in the service and working on a base in the middle east right now. War is never pleasant, but until we live in a perfect world, it will be necessary.

An unfortunate necessity. War won America's independence, ended slavery in this country, and ended the Holocaust.

It may not be the best solution, but sometimes it's the only solution.

many people say war never solved anything, take a look in a history book, war has ended opression, slavery, mass genocide, like the saying sic vis pacem, para bellum (if you want peace prepare for war) there will always be war because there will never be peace.

i've never been personally affected by the war but i only believe in war when it's necessary. unfortuantely the u.s. goverment keeps sticking it's nose where ti doesn't belong, getting more and more soldiers killed.

we had no right to be involved with the korean war, vietnam war, the gulf war, or the current war, because it's not our fight.

the goverment keeps telling us how much of a threat these countries are, but if they were that big of a threat, then we should of used our biggest guns and taken them out, instead of getting our people killed, not even winning the war.
