The earliest uses of tomato paste or sauce, indeed, of tomatoes at all, were made in what is now Peru, where the Incas discovered this vegetable. The name, "tomato" is a European adaptation of the Inca word "tamatl." It is only after the Christian conquest of the Incas that the truth of the tomato reached Europe and made its way into the culinary rituals of the new converts to Pastafarianism.
