The question itself is all the things it lists (well evil is sort of a strong word, but...).

I've been watching the back-and-forth vendetta between atheists and Christians on R&S, and to say that it's just one group that plays dirty is one of the most ridiculous statements I've ever seen. There are *rses on both sides, and there are plenty of sincere people as well.

The tone of your question implies that you are all of the things asked about.

Most of the people I know can be all of the above at some time during any given day. Most of the people I know consider themselves christians. Do you see where this is going? Are you familiar with the Golden Rule? Its the best thing the bible has to teach us.

Two other points:
1. atheist
2. Stop stereotyping

We are no more mean spirited than most religious people Nor are we more rude.

As Atheists we tend to find the viewpoint from most religious people that we need some kind of salvation by some deity (which we call imaginary things) and need to be prayed for extremely insulting.
I find relegeous people who cannot go without a reference to god, christ, jesus, allah, jaweh etc etc in every paragraph annoying and rude.
Why on earth would I take their feelings into account when they contineously insult my intelligence?
To an atheist religion is humbug and if you find that mean spirited and rude so be it. I feel the same way about religion

Jay let me quote you and respond to a few things.... "I'm stunned by their militancy against ANYONE being allowed beliefs. " Many christians are just as if not more ignorant towards an athiests rights to not beieve in or celebrate christmas. Open your eyes and you will find MANY christians responding by finishing their answer with a "Merry Christmas" to questions and answered geared towards athiest. You, I and others know it is being said in a force it down your throat cocky manner. "I ask the athiests - why so nasty toward those who ask reasonable questions about spirituality?" This Religion and Spirituality covers all types of religions. Not just Christianity. It is even here for people to discuss their right to not have any religious beliefs.Obviously you are one of those narrow minded christians who actually thinks that 99% of the world pray to your god. "This may seem one sided, but the majority of nastiness is from the athiest camp." Have you ever been to or do you possibly live in the bible belt Jay? You sound like it. "By the way, I am a Roman Catholic and have an educated understanding of the Bible, religion, and personal belief structures" I am an athiest Jay and I also "have an educated understanding of the Bible, religion, and personal belief structures" Jay. The only difference is I choose not to believe in fairytales and try to respect others rights to celebrate their own beliefs until they step on my toes and try to force feed it to me.

Only some are, others are very kind and loving.

In the same way some Christians are rude while others are very loiving, and the same goes for every religion out there. These just seem to be the biggest two groups on R&S.

I don't have a problem with them.

Pagan

Edit:

My "moral compass" is just fine. I don't offer offense to begin with (as you have done by generalizing in your question to begin with). So maybe it is you who needs to take another look at your "moral compass". Don't expect respectful answers when all you offer is a rude generalization.

Every religious group, or in this case, non-religious group, has these types of people within it. Just like every race has those people that give their entire race a bad name by the things they do and say. If you take a group of ethnically, racially, and religiously diverse people off the street, I can almost bet they would all be the same inside, just affected differently by their life experiences. Don't judge all people in a group by a few bad apples.

So you've met every one of us to be able to ascertain what you believe to be a fact but what in reality is a gross generalization. Should I in turn state that a number of religious people are comparable to the most extremist religious nuts of their own beliefs?

If you are going to make a statement as such, back it up with undeniable proof or it just makes you look bad; not us.

This from the guy who just wrote

"Those who believe in nothing now, will believe everything later? That sounds about right....".

Answer me this, kid - why is there an endless stream of rude believers like you who whine about atheists' behavior?

I suspect it has to do with the same thing that motivated an earlier question of yours. You wrote

"I think President Bush is the Greatest President to live don't you?"

Okay, so contact with reality is not your strong suit.

Pardon yourself, Please!

I am an athiest and I am none of the above. That is what I call stereotyping. Now, maybe we can solve a different issue: why are you so mean and rude to athiests?
