Getting highlights is only about £35-£40 at the hairdressers unless you go to some fancy place that charges your double, when triple all the other places....for doing the exact same thing?? with the exact same products lol

If your hair is Wash in wash out dye you'll have to wait for it to go completely out before you get highlights because the blond will be blond when its not beside the dark but if you put it on the dark OUCH! it looks green! trust me i done it the other week :( it was awful!

you can buy highlight caps and buy the dye you want to use from semi chem or your local supermarket or chemist and do it yourself but i would advise help from a friend or at least a friend watching over you :D

you can purchase highlight caps form your local chemist or supermarket and they are only a couple of pounds no more than £5 anyway ...I'm sure you can get packs of them for like 1.99 or something!

Hope i helped and happy hair dying days :D

Much Love..=]..<3

Hi the only thing I can suggest is to let it fade out till its almost a light brown, if it has started to fade now, it will become lighter each time you wash your hair, then you can either highlight it yourself at home with a highlight kit, I would recommend jerome russels Bblonde Highlight kit and leave it on for at least an hour and a half. I think it might work on your dark hair if its the only dye you have put on it in the last 3 months. it its isnt and you dye your hair alot, I would not recommend it at all. But your safe to if it the only one colour.

If you dont want to highlight or you have dyed it more in the past few months then just start on the light brown hair dyes as your dye is washing out it will be ok to use lighter ones.

I am with you on not going to the hairdressers, I have gone for highlights and a few other people I know have and they have ended up with orange hair because the bleach hasnt been on long enough, they messed my mums hair up, I could of done a better job, I had to dye over it as it was patchy orange everywhere and my mums hair has the lightest colour you can have, the hairdresser used the rong strength of bleach and did leave it on for long enough.

The over option would be to grow it all out and start from scratch which is what im going as I want to go blonde but it wont work as I have far to many colours on my hair for it to take. But because the colour is fading through all horrible as well as my roots. so im just puttiing on semis at the moment, as these are great for not damaging your hair and causing colour build up which is why its hard for my hair to bleach.

Also dont go for them highlight want things, there no way near have strong enough bleach in it to highlight it to where you want to go, it will turn out orange no matter how long you leave it.

Dont go to the hairdressers as they will try and go ahead and do it and 9/10 will ruin it and your hair so its not worth the waste of money. twice now I have gone to a hairdresser to get the kind of hair colour I wanted and they messed up on both occasions and I have wasted loads of money.

Don't use home kits, your hair will turn a horrible brassy colour & they're very damaging to your hair. A stylist will select the correct products for your hair colour, type etc.
Try your local college, I did my hairdressing training at college & it's about £20 for a full head of highlights. Salons also do training nights where the cost is probably about the same. The trainees are all supervised & up to speed on things so you needn't worry about them messing your hair up.

And Scott, I'd love to know where you can get a full head of highlights for £35, lol!

You Could Try A Home Kit But It's Risky Cause You Need To Test It On One Strand Of Hair and All.

Yes, darlin', I have your answer 4 you!!! The HAIR-COLOR COMPANIES have kept up with your needs!!! They now have a tri-tone (or quatro-tone) hair-dye on the shelf now which helps your hair look more NATURAL with several shades in it!!! I saw it last night at TARGET (probably WALLY-wORLD, TOO). iT WAS $7 TO $9 AND I SAW A COLOR CALLED mAHOGANY DARK BROWN (i BELIEVE THAT WAS THE COLOR)!!! I grabbed the plain Dark-Brown for my hair as my daughter wants (I had a baby in between & went to college & workras closely as possible!!! And I like either one! Tell me how your MAHOGANY comes out -- fotos would br nice!!!

I wouldn't risk it...
and if u do use a DIY kit be sure to use a strand test.
Im 15 and ive made that mistake more than once!
Ok so what I do when I want highlight is go to my local salon and get it done as a hair model.
The girls who arn't fully qualified do it but its as good a job as any of the other girls would do!
Annnnd its half price!

i had highlights at one point.
i just went to superdrug and got the highlighting kit.
it has one of them hats in it and you pull the bits of hair through then you mix up some chemicals, put it on the hair that is pulled through, leave it on for abit, then wash it off:)

its not that much a box either!

if you do it yourself it probably wont end up how u wanted it so u wil have to pay a hairdresser to fix it anyway , i would just go to a professional as most of the time DIY highlights dont look that good.... sorry but thats my opinion

show you how to comprehend hairstylist which you dont prefer to have a reddish tone. they'd upload stuff which will make it so which you dont get tones. additionally, use a coloration shampoo and concern. Ask you stylist besides which one you ought to use. she would be able to comprehend what's going to artwork best for you as a results of texture of your hair and each thing. good success!!
