I had a few Muslim friends will I was in the Army. And they are accommodated so they can practice their religion. As far as the fasting they practice that when they are stateside, but if they are deployed in Iraq, they eat. I was told by a Muslim friend of mine that they are allowed to eat in certain extreme situations. Its just not feasible to fast when you are burning 3000+ calories a day on mission.

They are allowed to pray as long as it does cause harm to the good order and discipline of the service or the mission.

If they have to get a plane off the runway at 5 AM in order to fulfill a mission, that takes priority over prayer call.

They can fast during Ramadan but they do not get the entire month off. If they want the month off, they can take leave.

Many have claimed they are contentious objectors or gay to get out of the military. One fragged his fellow Marines in Kuwait. Unfortunately it seems many are Muslims first and Americans second.

There are about 3,400 Muslims on active duty. About 1,500 in the Army. Not all of them are Arab-Americans. The Muslim who killed two of his superiors in Kuwait was an African-American who had converted to Islam. Over 80% of Arab-Americans are Christians.
The Marine Corporal who raised the U.S. flag ovr Bagram air Base in the initial ground phase of Operation Enduring Freedom was an Afghan-American Muslim. The Air Force Captain who ran into te burning Pentagon building and led hundreds to safety while getting badly burned in the process was a Muslim. The 19-year old New York Police Department who ran into World Trade Center #2 and led hundreds to safety before the building collapsed and killed him was an Arab-American and a Muslim.
It seems their religious prefence doesn't seem to interfere with their attention to duty or, in the cases I mentioned above, dampen their heroism either.

The military copes with Arab'- American enlistees, better than they cope with the military.

Arabs are by nature, complainers and victims. That being said, they complain a lot, they isolate themselves from others but embrace those who share their faith. And yes, they are afforded all the dignities their sect requires of them.
