I really want to go to Africa and work with children. There is one website I found that will send you to build houses and work at schools but you have to pay them. Is there any way I can do this without having to pay anything?

I am not aware of any organizations that will cover the costs of you going abroad to volunteer.

Usually they expect you to pay your own airfare as well as something to cover administrative fees to arrange everything. However, you can write the cost off your taxes as a donation to charity.

If you want to spend 2 years in Africa, check out the Peace Corps.

If you want to visit for a shorter period, your best bet if probably to join a church group that is going over.

Most organizations do not have the funds to support your good intentions. Start small; work locally with a group to see if your have the courage to see this through. realize that anything you do in your community is most likely 30% of what you would end up doing in Africa. There you have no nice home to go to at the end of the shift; you can't take a break and go to Starbucks.

Once you have made a name for yourself you may be able to get sponsors who will underwrite your efforts but without prior experience, who is going to do that? So work hard on your dream here first before tackling the larger issues there. Good luck.
