seven days, give or take a day

There are three stages to a females heat cycle
1 - Lasts about a week, where the males come sniffing around but she has no interest,
2 - The receptive stage, also about 5 to 7 days, where you'll see a discharge and if the males can't get to her she'll try to get to them,
3 - Last, 4 - 5 days where she is still interested but the males aren't.

Depending on the size of the dog the time between heat cycles is 6 to 8 months.

You might want to consider spaying your female if you have no plans to breed her. It makes her happier (yep, females PMS, too) and no more problems with unwanted visitors. Males can smell a female in heat from MILES away!

14 days or sometimes more, depending on the dog and how many heat cylcles she's already gone through. If you're not going to breed your dog, then it's highly recommended that you have her spayed...it's much heathier for her! If you have them spayed before they go throught their first heat cylce, the chances of your pet getting breast cancer are practically eliminated. But the more heat cycles you go through, the higher the risk. We saw a dog yesterday at the clinic I work at she was 6 or 7 and wasn't spayed as a pup, and she has 1 very large breast tumor, and 2 small ones. It doesn't look to good for her. you also won't risk ovarian/uteran cancer, as well as pyometra which is an infected uterus that they get after a cycle, or false pregnancy...those are sad.

As a general rule 11-14 days. Don't be alarmed if it does last longer. We have a female that is receptive to a male for 25 days during her heat cycle

They are in heat for approx 21 days, every six months.. Never if you have them spayed. This is basic dog knowledge, how come you missed this when you were researching before you bought your dog?
