My Husband is very interested in joining the Air Force to become a pilot. Is anyone here an Air Force Wife?? Is the Military Housing nice? Can you have pets in Military Housing? Is he over sees??

Does anyone have anyone they love in the Coast Guard? Do you have to go over sees in the Coast Guard? Is there 'Coast Guard Housing' or Coast Guard Bases?? Where are they located??

My Husband is getting ready to make a huge choice that will dramatically change our lives - and I am looking for more information from people who have ones they love in this situation!

does he already have a 4 year technical degree? without it, he won't have a very good chance of getting an Aviation slot in the Air Force.

yes, there is a possibility of him going Overseas, either on Deployment or as a permanent duty station. Pets in MFH vary from base to base and even within the base itself. there could be one base that have several different areas, each with a different policy on pets. For the most part, no exotic animals(ferrets lizards, etc) are allowed at all, and many aggressive dog breeds are banned as well.

Yes, the CG does deploy overseas. you will find CG bases all over the shore states as well as along major inland bodies of water such as the Great Lakes and the Mississippi. Not every CG base has base housing.

He'll have to be an officer to be a pilot, and to be an officer, he must have a degree. Also, if he does have a degree and wants to join as a commissioned officer, it does not guarantee that he'll get that position. He'll have to pass MANY other tests and background checks to be a pilot (physical and mental). It is MUCH harder than you think to become a pilot with the AF. Also, I believe there is a 10 year committment with the AF if he is wanting to be a pilot. My husband is an enlisted recruiter (not an officer recruiter), so I'm not positive on the amount of years. However, I'm very sure that your husband will spend some time overseas during deployments or during TDYs (temporary duties) in any job field, even if he's stationed stateside.

Every base is different as far as the housing, so it is hard to say. You are given the number of bedrooms by the number of dependents and rank...you do not just get to go pick out a house. They'll tell you what's available, you look at it, and accept it if you want. You can live off-base in the area and receive housing pay (different pay according to area and rank) if you do not like the houses. Yes, you can have pets in the housing.
