First off start by using smaller plates. Your eyes can deceive you and if they see a plate that is full they believe that you are going to eat a lot of food. Now by using smaller plates it looks as though you have more food and your body feels satisfied.

Then try to add more fiber to your meals. Fiber will help you get full faster and will keep you full longer. Foods such as green salads, oatmeal, high fiber cereals, veggies and 100% whole grain breads are all high in fiber.

The if you start making sure that you eat a little bit every 2 hours there will be less of a temptation to want to eat more at meal time.

Keep hydrated. Water will fill you up and also there are many time that we believe that we are hungry when actually we are really thirsty. So drink up.

Actually a smaller plate is a good start. A smaller plate gives the illusion that there's more food to eat. Also try weighing your portions. This can give you an idea of what the right amount of food looks like. From there you can see that there is usually way too much food on the average plate. You can pick up a food scale just about anywhere. Try it for a week, it can be an eye opener...good luck

Drink a lot of water along with your meals. Try to drink a whole glass before you even start eating. Water is so good for you - and it really helps to fill you up! It should help to keep you from wanting more or bigger portions. Make the transition gradual. Do not eat the last bite of your sandwich (or whatever). The next day, do not eat the last two bites. While you are cutting down portion size, replace "bad" foods with veggies and fruits. Try broccoli - it always works for me!!!

Control the amount that goes on the plate, eat only what is on the plate, do not get extra servings.

If there is something on the plate you should not eat, then either give it away before you are tempted or ruin it by covering it with salt or something that will make it uneatable for you.

You can curb your appetite by eating things like carrots, or celery and drinking a glass of water.

Eat slowly, because often you are full before your brain knows it.

When it comes to snacks, I buy 100 calorie packs, and just consume ONE pack!.

Breakfast is when I load up. Heavy meals early in the day, and lighter meals later prevents weight gain.

At lunch, if I go to a fast food place, I order small combos, or grilled sandwiches, or salads.

At dinner at home, I get a child's size plate, and fit just enough to cover the plate. No seconds!
