There's a rumor that the 80 gb version might drop down to 500 bucks. Rumor is that 500 bucks will be the starting price for the new PS3 (40 gb excluded).

If you want, you can get the 40 gb version which costs less than the current 60 gb version. It's rumored to be 400 bucks, and it also comes with Spider-Man 3 (the movie, not the game). It's just as good as the 60 gb except for the 20 gb difference. But if you need more space, you can always get a laptop SATA hard drive.

There will not be a price drop on the 60 gb because Sony is just trying to get rid of them.

In the UK, Sony has just annouced that the 60GB version here will drop to £349 with two games (from £425) and a newer 40GB model is due out at the same time with some reduced features (no PS2 b/w compat., less USB ports and no memory card slots) for £299.
