First of all, relax! Canon camera's have a function called slow-synchro, where the exposure time is increased and the flash is scaled down. It makes for a more balanced picture without over-brightening the image. What does this mean? The reason the images come out blurry are because the shutter speed is slow - to disable this function and restore a normal flash simply turn on your camera, go into a normal shooting mode and enter the menu (press the menu button). Once you're in the menu you should see a "slow synchro" option (3rd or 4th down the list). Simply disable it, and you're back to shooting with a normal flash! If this doesn't work it's probably the self-timer that has been accidentally activated, in which case you just want press the "down" button (bottom part of the circle next to the screen) till the timer is off. Happy shooting :)

Just press the Photo button down half way before you take the picture. The half way point allows the camera to focus and set the flash setting.

And make sure your camera setting is not on the Delayed Timer for self portraits. Some of them have three time settings, 2 sec. 10 sec. and 20 sec.

On the top of the camera, there is a wheel that you turn to various picture modes.

If it's set to 'auto', the camera will focus before it takes the picture.

The way to make it shoot when you want to is to point the camera, and press the shutter button halfway down - it will focus. then, when you press the shutter all the way down, it will shoot.
