if you want to know what Catholicism is all about, why do you read books and articles that are anti-Catholicism?
why not read books and articles that explain well what Catholicism is really all about, and make sure you understand it perfectly well? that is, if you're really seekers of Truth.
(just so you'd know, I'm not Catholic so don't hate me)

shaolt2002, it's because actions speak louder than words.
so whether I'm Catholic or not is not the issue.

Very good question!!!
I am Catholic, a convert.
I am very frustrated when people tell me I am not a Christian, I will go to Hell being Catholic, we don't read our bible, we pray to Mary, etc, etc, etc. ALL WRONG!!!
Don't bad mouth us until you have really research my faith. If I said something about yours, how would you feel and what would you say???

People who want to be anti-catholic probably do not trust catholic books, they might even be afraid to read them in case they are contaminated with Catholic beliefs :-)
Fear is a powerful motive in most of the anti-catholicism I have encountered.

I think this applies to any and all religions - rather than read the anti-(fill in the name of the religion here) books, articles, propaganda that are so prevalent, check with the faith itself. Most religions/churches have an "official" website that information can be obtained from. Or contact the local congregation for help.
Again, I think it applies to all - Catholics, Baptists, Mormons, Lutherans, Jews, etc., etc.

I suggest to questioners about Catholicism that they go to Catholic Answers at http://www.catholic.com then look at the left sidebar: You will see many subjects. You can click on one and see tracts that will answer your questions. Also, the search engine will search 20 years worth of articles from "This Rock" magazine. There are a lot of great articles there too
The"official" Catechism Of The Catholic Church is online at: http://www.usccb.org/catechism/text/entiretoc1.htm
This is a difficult document to read. (The book is about three inches thick!) But, there is a wealth of information there too if you take the time to learn how to navigate it.

I have read the books and pamphlets published by the Catholic church to see what they believe plus a childhood friend is a nun. I cannot help a Catholic to see the truth if I do not know what they believe. The truth is found in the Bible and you can easily take the Catholic Bible, as antiquated as the language is, and teach the errors in the literature published by the Catholic Church.

If you are not Catholic, why are you presuming we hate Catholics or Catholicism? Second, what is more important... basing our beliefs off the Bible, or basing our beliefs off the Vatican? The second just seems to be a form of slavery or divine right... "If you do not follow this country or obey this earthly king you are going against God's will"

I am not a Fundamentalist, but I read your question anyway.
I've read the Catholic Catechism and the Documents of Vatican II from cover to cover.
I've also attended over 100 Roman Catholic church services.
And that's where I get my information about what the Roman Catholic Church teaches.

Velvet,
to be completely honest with you, I have never read any anti-catholic book, paper or article.
I have just read the official, nihil obstat publications, imprintur (sp) publications, official catholic catechism book and official Vatican news releases and stuff the pope says in them.
if I appear anti-catholic, it is because they are anti-bible and I am pro-bible. The pope has just said any church that is not under the pope does not have sufficiency for salvation.
the bible says, salvation is only found in Jesus Christ. who is wrong, the bible they say they believe but discount?
