Yes. Once in Japan, I saw an empty parking space. When I came back, I was the only one there and had a ticket attached to my door handle. I went to the police box near by and the cop told me at the end of the street (about 1/2 block ahead of me) there was a sign stating the parking hours. He was nice enough not to register the ticket...I was an 'ignorant gaijiin (foreigner).
The only other one I got, I had gone out to the Farmer's Market to register to vote (they had a voter registration drive) and parked my motorcycle along side the road behind a car (I backed in). When I came back less than 1/2 hour later, I had a ticket. I saw some 'brown shirts' (volunteer cops) and asked why I got a ticket. I was less than 50' from the intersection! I paid it in coins.

Yes. I had to take a test out at the UCF campus in Orlando. I was a student of UCF at the time, but at a Satellite Campus in a different town. No one told me how to obtain a parking pass for the day, nor were there any signs instructing visitors to the campus where to park legally. I found a parking garage that had a "toll collector booth" so I parked there figuring it was visitor parking. I went and took my test (failed it). Cried the whole way back to my car because I failed the test a second time. Got lost on campus looking for the garage I had parked in. Got to my car and noticed a $65 parking ticket on the windshield. I paid the ticket, but I also included a note that suggested they mark the proper parking area for visitors more clearly. The next time I went back to the campus there were at least 4 signs leading to the visitor parking lot. They must have recieved a lot of complaints!

I got one once. I went downtown to a farmers market run by the downtown business association. I parked in a metered parking structure 5 minutes before the time free parking starting. They actually came around during the last 5 minutes and ticketed all the cars that did not pay. They have lost me as a customer since I have never gone back.

Yes once in Bristol, I was not a happy bunny. I got one by stopping on the zig zag lines of a zebra cossing to let my son go to a cash machine when he was going out on the town. This was done so that he would not be tempted to drink and drive. It is known as Sod's law
