Christ IS the Eucharist, and the Eucharist IS Christ. Therefore, when we receive the Eucharist, we receive Him.

Transubstantiation. The priest is the vehicle by which the bread and wine are turned into Jesus' body and blood. If you believe that Jesus can be present in anything then it is possible for him to be present in the Sacrament of the Eucharist.

The Eucharist holds the representation of His body [the host] and the sacrifice of giving up of the corporal for the spiritual, the wine representing the blood shed for our sin by Jesus.

christ is present in the assembly itself, where people are gathered in His name, in the person of the priest, in His word (through the scriptures, christ speaks to us), and most esp. through the eucharistic species which is the bread and wine.

Well, if you believe what He said, He's physically present. Look at John 6:66 and following. When the people deserted Him because He was apparently speaking of cannibalism, He didn't call them back, He asked His DISCIPLES if they wanted to leave, too. Sounds pretty serious to me.

Jesus said: "‘I am the living bread which came down from heaven; if any one eats of this bread, he will live for ever; and the bread which I shall give for the life of the world is my flesh.’ The Jews then disputed among themselves, saying, ‘How can this man give us his flesh to eat?’" (John 6:51–52). In Matthew 26:26 Jesus tells them how: "While they were eating, Jesus took bread, gave thanks and broke it, and gave it to his disciples, saying, "Take and eat; this is my body."
After the resurection, when he was at the table with the travelers to Emmaus, he took bread, gave thanks, broke it and began to give it to them. Then their eyes were opened and they recognized him. (Luke 24)
When a Catholic priests speaks Christs words over the bread and wine, the bread and wine become the Body, Blood , Soul and Divinity of Christ, but the "accidents" (appearance) of bread and wine remain.
