You can have someone walk you through the motions before you go into it. Having a game plan of the events can be calming because you know what to expect. Play out the events ahead of time, go through all the what it's. And imagine that they are all wearing heart shaped boxers. But for me I have to completely imagine there are no people. And there is a thing called Nerve Tonic for 5.00 at Wal-mart that is non addictive. OTC-homeopathic med.

Close your eyes & try to visualize a calming medium blue color. Take a few deep breaths. Block out anything else for the moment. Visualize that you are doing what ever it is & in your mind you say & do everything right or the way you want it to turn out.
It has been proven that if a person visualizes what lays ahead that it is just as good as practicing it. This was done with Basket Ball players. In their mind they were to visualize that that they made the basket every time they tried. It said that it was as good a accutual practice, if not better.
Good luck with your big event.

Yes, you can calm yourself by drugs, if you like, but klonipin (my anti-anxiety drug) makes me sleepy and not overly able to express myself verbally.
I myself would choose meditation. Choose a word the calms you. Say that word in your mind while you breathe in, say it again while you breathe out. Breathe deeply and slowly with your eyes closed in a "alone" place (closet, bathroom, car, wherever you feel safe). It never fails to calm me.
And, of course, make sure that you're super-ready, practiced in front of a mirror and know your part forwards & backwards.
