He asked what it would take to make his a 1 ton. I said he would probably just have to add the two extra leaf springs on both sides of the rear axle. Does he need to do more?

The 2500 to 3500 is the extra springs & maybe the frame stops> Try http://www.hellwigproducts.com/ as there easy install 2500lb put a set on our 1500 as a lift kit rides great & can carry a bed full of rock>Have 2 3500 swb diesels>

At one time Dodge came out with as many as 4 different truck frames alone to fit different truck applications. I'm sure it will take more than changing a few items on a 3/4 to make it a 1 ton. And how will you change the VIN. to be legaly correct?

There is usually a different frame along with heavier axles in 1 tons over 3/4 tons also.
