What the heck is going on?

It's bad enough unbelievers attack Christians, but Christians attacking Christians because of different RELIGIONS.

It's about Jesus Christ, not religion.

You all should be ashamed of yourselves...

The Bible says to discern and realize that there's false "christians" in the group. Many that call themselves "christian" are not Christians.

Michael, I am the same way. It really irks me the wrong way when people in the media claiming they are Christians yet are against everything Christ is. I seriously wonder how many churches would Jesus go through in anger (like the temple with the moneychangers) and clean out if He were walking on the earth today. It saddens me when I see people protesting things in the name of God. Edit: I am a Christian and I have been for a long time, very involved in what ever church I go to regularly and it saddens me there too to see people so bound up by the rules that they can't see past them to the point that they become bitter and can't live their lives more abundant and free in Christ. Edit 2: Yes it is true that we are going to persecuted, Christ even said it himself. BUT there is a difference between being a true Christian and living in His example and being persecuted and being persecuted because of those that give Christ and his followers a bad name because of doing things like protesting a soldiers funeral because "GOD hates America". That is the difference.

Is chastising others for not obeying Christ, giving Christians a bad name currently? Is defining/accepting the scriptural 'old testament' as Genesis-Malachi, instead of the law of Moses (synonym; 2 Cor. 3:13-14 KJV) obeying what Christ told us? (See also 2 Tim.3:16-17,Joshua 1). Need I also talk about the '2 or more witnesses' principle; Jews Deut. 10-20, Christians Matt. 18:16, 2 Cor. 13:1?

in one word. Misunderstanding, that is what.

Christians are giving each others a bad name, because they are within themselves are struggling with the teaching of Jesus Christ, and what happens by Some Christians, and they want to separate themselves from them. As if they are saying, we are not like those Christians, we are the true Christians, the other guy is not.

Pointing the finger of blame on the other guy, is a way to removing the blame on themselves. These days, as you can see on this site. Christians are blamed for everything, anyone does. That is another way of self defense. Not standing by one another.

Look at the answers here in this question alone. Non Christians still bring up the past, the far past, and blame us for it. The Cursade, the inquestion, etc. How long must we still be blame for the crimes of other! how long!! and then at the same time, the same people who bring out the shameful past of Christians will tell you that not all those who committ terrisom are the same, just a few of them.
Why doesn't the justification is no applied for both!

In addition, those same Christians who attack one another, want to find the good in others, and in retrospect, are attacking one another to find reason why things are happening by others against them.

It is a shame that people do that to each others, but the Christians aren't the only people who do. Look at how the Muslims treat one another from other sects!!

We all want to find a reason why things are happening that way. With that are attacking the one who are closest to us. Not just the Christians, but other religions as well.

This is part of the reason why we become an easy target. Becaue we don't stand by one another. "United we stand, united we fall." Here, divided we will fall.

"Love one another as the Lord Loves you." We should all do that.

The major thing that give Xianity a bad name is that they are are often woefully ignorant, or at least a vocal few are. Take the terms "Xian" or "Xmas", most Christians will assume that people are trying to remove "Christ" from the words, when the truth they are both Xian terms and the "X" is representative of the Greek letter Chi and symbolic of Christ.

Then there are the more important issues of holding to or believing the Creationist propaganda or "pseudo-science". If it was not tied to religion, people would have no problem with calling it "kooky" or falsification of information. Take the "flat earth" belief, most of us can easily see that their claims are totally false and can easily research why their "challenges" to a spherical earth are totally bogus, but many fail to see that Creationist claims are the same or worse.

Stupid people that generalize groups of people should be ashamed of their selves for assuming that every thing in a group is the same. There is thousands of different groups of Christians. Even from Church to church things aren't always the same. Just because you saw a couple of crazy whacked out God enthusiasts doesn't mean all Christians act that way. People are entitled to their beliefs and some people think if they don't preach it screaming from the roof top they won't get into heaven.

I have had friends who are Buddhists, Native Americans, Wiccans and Athiests that are better Christians than many church-going bible-thumpers I know. Native Americans call it "walk your talk". To me, "Christian" means "Christlike". It doesn't mean cornering friends and total strangers demanding to know whether they've been saved. I find no other religion this pushy.

I've had many interesting religious discussions with people of different faiths and have found them very interesting.

This country was founded on freedom of religion. It's why the Quakers left England.

And a final note: I believe it says in MATTHEW 7:1-5: "Judge not lest ye be judged"

I am a Catholic. Now, you all know how screwed up I am.
I listen to what other Christians say, I read about different religions and I have decided to be as tolerant of views as I can be, but no more.
I don't want the responsibility and so I don't try to lead other people's lives. I don't tell people that they are wrong, but I do tell them that I don't agree.
The bad name comes from arrogance and judgment.
C. :)!!

Amen! I agree my friend...however in my opinion it's not only different religions or "denominations," which is nothing more than a euphemism for divisions of our Lord Jesus' Church, but different ways people read and interpret the Scripture too. i.e. making up things that suit their way of thinking instead of correctly quoting the Bible. Good observation my dear friend in Christ..

What gives Christianity a bad name? How about fanaticism. When are people going to realize that the Bible says the same thing in the Catholic church as it does in the Mennonite church as it does in the Lutheran Church as it does in the Baptist Church.
Here, The Imperials said it best with their song!

Actually, there is a spiritual element at play. Christianity has a "bad name" simply because darkness is offended by the light of Jesus. The worldly people are offended by anything having to do with the truth of Jesus.
Here's an example: I'm sure you know who Rosie O'Donnell is, and that she has been very outspoken against the beliefs of christians, especially on the issue of gay marriage, and homosexuality in general. Rosie is very offended by christians because of their views on homosexuality. However, in light of the event of Iranian president Amidenijad being invited to speak at Columbia University, the world has discovered that, in fact, homosexuals in islamic nations are actually killed for being gay. What has Rosie said about this? Nothing. Rosie is silent about these islamic nations, and the teachings of the islamic religion. Rosie is somehow not offended by the killing of homosexuals in sialmic nations. Rosie is offended by christians who simply say homosexuality is a sin according to the bible, but that they love the sinner, but she is not offended when islamic nations call homosexuality a sin, and then kill them. Why is that? It's because Rosie, and everyone like her, are in darkness, and those in darkness are offended by the light, but they are not offended by another darkness. That's biblical.
