I'm going to college in the fall of 2008 for Architecture, and its required that I need a laptop. That not a problem. I know that college loans pay for laptops if you need one. But the thing I was wondering is. I have a computer now, and when I get my student loans I'm going to go by a mac book pro. The thing is I go on vacation to the Caribbean in January of 2008, and I want to take a laptop with me. Can I get a apple visa card and then when I get my student loans, pay it off? Can it work like that?

There is a lot more than student loans to paying a college education, and it is now the best time to seek out scholarships to minimalize your student loans. There is financial aid for almost anyone out there regardless of family income. I recommend applying for every scholarship you qualify for consideration. I will include some free resources to locate college tuition money.

First, complete the FAFSA form in January, early February, or the earliest financial aid deadline of all the colleges or universities you applied to for admission. It utilizes a percentage formula to determine your need for the Pell Grant. It includes your family size, how many are attending college at the same time, your income and savings along with your parents' income and savings. You could also qualify for need based scholarships from the college's endowment fund, work study program, and federal student loans. One warning, though, the school will utilize its own methods to determine your own needs for its financial aid package, and you may or may not get enough for a lap top. I recommend utilizing private student loans as much as possible due to the high interest rates involved. I recommend buying a new computer when you come across the best deal on it. This needs to be completed every year until you graduate from college with a degree.

Second, the high school guidance office has a list of local scholarships for current students and state programs for merit scholarships and grants. These are the easiest to get compared to the national scholarships.

Third, the local public library has a book listing scholarships with some not even located on the web.

Finally, I recommend joining several free membership scholarship search websites. They offer a search based on the information you enter into a form. There is a scholarship for almost anything including wearing duct tape to the prom.

Good luck!
