I already have my basic points in the con side. In this debate con is saying that the private ownership of handguns in the united states shouldn't be banned. One of my contentions is about law enforcement failing to arrive quickly. I heard another con speech, and they had statistics that said like something % of police arrive withing 2 minutes and so on and apparently a majority of police take over 10 minutes to arrive does anyone have those statistics because I can't find them. and... if you can PLEASEEEE cite your source?

Here is a link to the FBI's uniform crime reports (UCR). These are statistics submitted to the FBI every year by most of the law enforcement agencies in the US. Use it to show how many violent crimes happen.

Here are some stats from the BJA on response times:

Also you might chat with some of the posters on www.thehighroad.com about 2nd amendment issues.

Hope this helps.

Take a look at the FBI's uniform crime statistics website it might answer your question...you will need to mine the information that you need.

Also to give a local slant you may want to call your local police or sheriff and ask them what their average response time was for 2006. They are required to report said response time and should have that information available. Ask to speak with the departments public affairs officer (that person that speaks to the public).

The Second Amendment prohibits gun control ! The Supreme Court has been spineless about upholding our right to keep and bear arms.

You want to solve the "gun control" problem ? Those who commit armed crimes should be removed from not just society, but be put on the front lines...they already know how to shoot.

Let them do something good for society i.e.: Kill terrorists or die trying.

I live in the country a good ways from town. All we have is the sheriff's department. They have pretty muchly told us we are on our own out here. It's over thirty miles to the nearest substation.
So it depends on where you live and how close you are to a station. There are a lot of factors that determine response time.
