Taking things out-of-context is dangerous. It's like walking up in the middle of a conversation. Statements made before (and after) can and will change the meaning of what you just heard.

I would say that first of all it should be accurate and consistent. You should never quote out of context, as this is in a way a form of lying. This can be applied to authentic, which I assume means that the quote actually exists and was attributed to the one making it. Relevance is also important as if the context is not relevant to what you're using a quote for, it is extremely unlikely to really apply to what you're talking about.

An example of this is the number of misquotes used by creationists. A current museum director has a theory that birds evolved as a separate branch and not from dinosaurs, so he is often quoted as saying evolution doesn't happen - if you actually read what he said, and how he is quoted, you will see the quote is way out of context and therefore a form of deception.

Contextualization is probably the only way sense can be made of whatever's being examined. Fragments frequently contain so little of the entire thought they misrepresent what's intended by the author, or the meaning of the event.

It should be authentic because you will be basing and comparing your concept on mere facts as in 'in the context' of. It doesn't have to be relevant though, for you are siting an opinion based on the content of any subject matter.

If it's not authentic, it can be wrong. And if it isn't relevant, it's a waste of time.
