i'm sorry this question is not for athiests this is for people who believe in god i'm just wondering:

i think we have a forgiving god but i know people who are like "it doesn't matter you can always repent anyway" and i think that's like giving people a ticket to sin.

what do you think?

Good Question, The lord's mercy does run out, In the bible it says you can repent always but the Lord knows your heart he knows when you are being sincere. That is when he forgives you

People that do use that excuse are hypocrites, plain and simple. If that were the case, then why would there be a need to repent in the first place?

Take this for example: A spouse lies to their mate, then later repents from it and the other spouse forgives them. However, the lying mate keeps lying to their spouse and uses the excuse that as long as he keeps repenting, it's okay. Can the lying spouse really expect for their mate to keep forgiving them?

If you were truely christian and read your bible you would know that even the bible allows for divorce in two circumstances one being adultery the other abandonment. Both of which your husband committed not to mention the brutality. So stop beating yourself up and holding yourself responsible for his actions. If he left in May that is abandonment so he constructively ended the marriage anyway so if you had "relations in October" it would not be an affront to your marriage because it was over in May. I am not a christian but I am qualified to answer this as I have studied religion at length and recently assisted a very close friend of mine obtain an annulment from the Catholic church when her husband did the same thing.

God will always forgive, but when we wantonly sin, we make a mockery of His sacrifice and all that he has done for us. It's really sad because it ruins our witness. We look just like everybody else. Repentance comes from sincerely feeling sorry for our sins. When we sin in this way, we don't feel sorry.

Let you light so shine the men will see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven

Um, who knows. You shouldnt live like that but Jesus himself said not 7 times, not 7X77, etc. Jesus was willing to forgive limitlessly but I think He meant that for the (forgiver's) sake, that does not mean that punishment will not come from the other person. I imagine Jesus honors (sincere) deathbed confessions and that kind of thing when they happen but as far as spiritual treasure in heaven they wont have any.

If God is perfect, what would He have to forgive? We need forgiveness for it was man that has perpetrated all wrong. God is beyond the human concepts of right and wrong. These are human judgment and are always being misplaced upon God!

oh, please..... so the guy who murdered eight people just to watch them die, gets religion just before the death penalty is laid upon him, repents, believes and now this Slobbovian Son of a Biotch gets to go to HEAVEN?>.... I don't THINK so!!!.... or the priest takes his confession, deals out the holy water and he's absolved????.... no way..... the woman who drowns her babies?.... you cannot tell me that SHE too gets the Heaven ticket..... just because she 'sees the error and repents'.... here's one MORE place where me and religion part ways!!!....

In Islam, God always forgives if the man/woman wishes to be forgived.

Repentance has three conditions:

1- Feeling sorrow for the sin, as Prophet Mohamed says, “Repentance is feeling sorrow.”

2- Stopping the sin.

3- Taking a firm decision not to return to the sin again.

A man visited Prophet Mohammed and asked him:

"If I performed a sin – O Prophet of Allah – would it be recorded?"

The Prophet answered: "Yes."

The man said: "What if I repented?"

The Prophet said: "It will be erased."

The man added: "What if I returned to the sin once again?"

The Prophet answered: "It will be recorded once again."

The man said: "What if I repented?"

The Prophet said: "It will be erased."

The man said: "What if I returned again?"

The Prophet said: "It will be recorded."

The man asked: "What if I repented?"

The Prophet said: "It will be erased."

The man said: "What if I returned again?"

The Prophet said: "It will be recorded."

The man asked: "What if I repented?"

The Prophet said: "It will be erased."

The man asked: "Until when will it be erased?"

The Prophet answered, “Allah does not stop bestowing His forgiveness until you get bored of asking for it.”

This is also a famous story about repentance in Islam:

There is only one sin that is unforgivable....That is to deny the Holy Spirit.....Luke 12:10
But unto him that blasphemeth against the Holy Ghost it shall not be forgiven.

I blasphemeth against the Holy Ghost, may he rot in the lake of burning fire where there will be gnashing of teeth.....Wow nothing happened, I guess they were wrong about that one...
