My mom had breast cancer and beat it almost 6years ago and now she's just recently found another lump but here's the problem. We don't have any money and she does not have healthcare and does not qualify for state health care. We cant afford to pay for the medical bills. Is there anyone out there that can help us? I mean, i know that the American Cancer Society gives Free Memograms but do they do that in Missouri? If you have any suggestions on where we can get help, please let us know. This really is a life and death situation..

First, pull out the credit cards or borrow from family to go to doc and have appropriate tests run. Call your former doc/hosp. They may see you without going through all that crap. I have had continueing care for the last 3 years, but my insurance only pays so much. I owe my hosp a nice chunk of money and the financial dept keeps harrassing me and telling me they are gonna sue and I cant be seen by their docs anymore. I just ignore them. They wont let me set up a payment plan for less than 50$ a month and my docs keep seeing me. so...

Anyways After that you can fund raise, ask, borrow, beg and basically do whatever you have to in order to get the money. For cancer treatment I def would not be above begging.

Get the community involved. People love feeling like they are helping others who are less fortunate. Jars at the store, local news station, whatever.

I know its not the best thing for the ego and not the most modest things to do, but as you said, its life or death

Try calling the operator at Barnes-Jewish Hospital (the one on Kingshighway). Ask for the social work department and see if they can help you out.

Another possibility is the resident run clinic at Barnes-Jewish Hospital (used to be called the Wohl clinic; I don't suspect they've changed their name recently). The patients there are seen by residents (doctors who've finished medical school and are in post-graduate training but aren't full-fledged doctors) but they're supervised by medical school professors and they do a good job.

Good luck!

Go to www.breastcancer.org and register there. You can ask this question there and that group can tell you just about everything you can think of to ask.

Good luck.
