I see some answers on here like, "the christians keep saying we will go to hell and they are the one bashing us." "it is definetly the christian's fault because they force us and think they're religion is the only one"
you are all pretty ignorant. i am not like that. i think everybody should have their own beliefs. i am christian you do not have to believe in what i believe. i don't go around preaching my beliefs to people either. i understand how many christians can generalize abotu athiests too and say athiests go to hell. which is also very ignorant. but why do you bash on me?
i have athiest friends, we never talk about religion, so we never argue.
why are YOU so concerned with MY religion anyway?

I'm a Christian and i got to say i'm dissapointed with the Christians on Yahoo!Answers. They are always saying "you will go to hell". Thats not a good aproach. I try to just live my life as good as possible and maybe others will want to be Christians too.

I don't know why people bash each other for their beliefs. It is the same as racism to me. A human being is unique, no one thinks like you or breaks things down to understand them like you do.
This is what makes life meaningful is the soup that we are all in, if we all were the same it would be so boring, I don't mind discussing my beliefs with someone who is also open minded, I am a Christian meaning I believe that Jesus Christ walked this earth, it does not mean that I belong to any known religion today, not all Catholics, Protestants etc. are true Christians because some just follow what they are told never seeking the truth, some have never read the Bible that in itself does not make you an Atheist or non believer, but you have a greater understanding of what it is all about when you do read and study the scriptures for your own gratification and knowledge of human nature. It also makes you understand why we have so many sects and religions today.

Don't be daft. Everybody generalizes, and so do you. Nobody sees the world for what it is. We all have a psychological map. This map can be richly decorated with a tremendous legend, leading to confusion, or poorly decorated with a small utility legend, allowing for quick decisions, but also, for heavy stereotyping.
When you see a huge boulder fall onto the road, do you stop and question whether it's a sedimentary or metamorphic rock? Likely not. Rock suffices and you move to avoid it.
The same is true in all situations, especially when a quick answer is needed.
A rock behaves like a rock. They can look, feel, smell, and taste different, but they will always have the same effect on a dodge durango.
The point of all this is that everybody generalizes, and nobody has the time to waste looking at every problem or question from the highest possible perspective.

As a former atheist, and now dedicated Christian, I myself am disappointed with the approach that both atheists and Christians have (other people included) on the topic of religion.
I am trying to gain the media's attention on Christianity and
atheism and the silent war between the two. It seems that Christian-bashing is the number one indoor sport for non-Christians, whereas atheism is seem as a positive ideology.
The two extremes that you are talking about are often the militant "evangelical" atheists who are firm in their belief and philosophy to a point where it is basic fact, and anyone contrary to their belief is either "loony", a "liar", etc. (And I have met plenty of those). Because of this, atheism can be seen to be a religion.
Christians, however, especially America's Christianity, is in the decline - the preaching of hell and condemnation to gain followers, is contrary to the teachings of the bible. It appears that American fundamentalists are doing this, and no other (especially no other country). However, because of their attention in the media, there is a perception that Christians are hateful and judgmental.
One thing that atheists need to realise: Those who are practicing Christians (I myself included), Christianity defines who we are. An attack on Christianity appears to be a personal attack - rational ideas must be discussed in an open-minded manner.

Basically there are a lot of immature people around who get off by bashing others. It makes them feel better about themselves, I guess.
Not all atheists are immoral, wicked and evil.
Not all Christians are ignorant morons who can;t think for themselves.
But trying to get the people who believe either of those things to open their eyes and see that would be harder than getting a Democrat and Republican to agree on something. Many atheists will never admit they have as much faith in things they don't understand as Christians and that Christians base many of their decisions on logic; many Christians will never believe that an atheist is just saying the truth as they see it and don't feel the need for religion. (Note: Many people do not fall into these narrow categories.) It probably has more to do with ego and the nature of belief itself rather than *what* in particular is believed.
I think everyone wants to have someone to point a finger at. Atheists condemn people to their version of "hell" and Christians do the same to their opponents. Its basically a "sectarian gospel": 1) We're right, you're wrong; 2) We're good, you're bad; 3) If YOU believed like US, then all of the world's problems would go away. This is true from any sect from atheists and Christians to the Emacs vs. vi crowd. Its just human nature and everyone tried to pretend that they don't suffer from it by putting all the blame on their opponents. They can never see that when they do this, they behave *precisely like* those that they criticise so harshly.

Crap, i became going to study this, yet then I have been given uninterested in the bible costs. Oh nicely. perhaps some atheists generalize for a similar reason which you in straightforward terms did. edit: I felt undesirable so I study the final paragraph. i think of a great form of non-Christians do this via fact the Bible bashers are loud, offensive, and as a result are heard extra in many cases. whilst i became a Christian I hardly shared that information with different Christians, i became fearful of the conversations this type of statement might incite from the hell a fury bible bashers.

I consciously try not to because I don't like to be generalized. Am I 100% perfect at it?... Probably not and I don't mind being shown that I've made the mistake either. All people will do it at one time or another because we are emotional creatures and sometimes that takes over before the logical part of our brain has a chance to catch up to it.

There will always be rude people on any side of any debate. Most atheists are offended by legislation of belief... and never question a person's right to believe... it is the defense of the atheist right to not believe.

You attacked us for generalizing and then said, "you are ALL pretty ignorant."
Yet you wonder why you are not well received....
Look at how you come across.
You come across as thinking you are better than anyone else...atheist or Christian.
I have never generalized as much as you have in this one question.
YOU then say we need to learn how to read. You need to learn how to qualify and not generalize.
