Great point! Just like "we are all sinners", is that good news?

The "good news" is that there's a way to avoid going to Hell (according to the Christian beliefs). Sorry to say, but in some cases -- you're right, in that some people dwell on the "fear factor" of going to Hell. What they don't seem to realize is that instead of scaring someone into a particular idea, they should be playing up the truth that there's a better outlook. In John 3:16-17, the depth of God's love is stated thus~ "For God so loved the world, that He gave (for a supreme sacrifice) His only begotten son -- that whosoever believeth in Him (as being the Messiah) should not perish (spiritually), but have everlasting life. For God sent not His son into the world to condemn it (to Hell), but that through Him (as a sacrificial lamb), it (the souls of mankind) might be saved. I think that's great news ! Could you give up your only child (or yourself -- depending on your interpretation of the Holy Trinity) to save someone else from certain doom?

John 3.16 gives the gospel (the "good news"). The next verse says that all men are condemned from the start. Christians do not condemn anyone to hell, but try to save people from it. Cart before the horse, and all that.

Because that is not the point of the message. The Good News is that you can come back to God and reestablish the connection that was lost. You no longer have to separated from God because someone else paid the price for you.

Do Christians turn people toward or away from God by spreading this type of "good news"? In my experiences, a huge number of people are disgusted by such a hypocritical, judgmental message, and choose to reject religion in general, and Christianity in particular, because of it.

What is sad is that so many people yearn for a spiritual outlet, for a connection with God.

The Bible says that God loves you very much, and that all you have to do is open your heart to Him, and you will be rewarded. That His light will push away the darkness. That true peace can be obtained, with God's help.

Isn't this the message we should be sharing with the world instead? Isn't this the "Good News"?

It is your own conscience that condemns you. When one is in right standing with God, the Lord keeps them in perfect peace and their conscience is not seared by what men do or say. When you are not right with God, you are tossed about with every word of God that a Christian speaks because your conscience is seared by your own rejection of and rebellion against God. Hell is a personal choice. Anyone who winds up there has only themselves to blame. It is "Good News" because not one of us deserves God's Grace. We are truly blessed.

well, apparently if you never hear the "good news" their god won't condemn you to his eternal torture chamber. it's only after you've been informed of your sinful fallen state and of the blood sacrificial remedy thereof that you're in danger of writhing in teeth gnashing agony forever and ever if you fail to believe.

i guess it's best to stick your fingers in your ears and sing "lalalalala" real loud whenever a Fundy Christian approaches lest you be forcibly coerced into converting to Christianity under the duress of hell threats.

PS. hehehe! seems that some Christians don't like the idea of their proselytizing going unheard over some "lalalalala"ing.

The good news is that although sin and death and hell exist, you don't have to choose it. You have a choice, a way of escape.

That's the GOOD part!

I'm christian and i've never told anyone they would go to hell. I just try to live my life as good as i can and follow the bible so maybe people might become christians too. Saying people will go to hell isn't a good aproach.

it's good news to Bible-fundamentalists because they love the thought of other people suffering in hell.

It was good news because they had plenty of woodland and hence firewood for sale in the Dark Ages. Conflagrations were not only fun family outings but profitable too!

Nowadays it's still a catchy phrase...!

JOKE!

C'mon lighten up people.
