I had my wisdom teeth taken out on Tuesday it is now Saturday, the pain has gotten worse. Nothing seems to stop the pain, the ibprofun seems to have no effect cool compress doesn't do anything. I tried to see if I have a dry socket but I can't really see anything everything is all swollen and it looks like the cut is off to the side. I do have a weird salty taste in my mouth (not sure if it is from the salt rinse) and the pain has gotten worse with each passing day, I just cried for about 10 minutes because the pain is so intense. My cheeks also feel very hot my temperature is normal however. The place where I got my wisdom teeth taken out is closed, should I call another dentist or oral surgery place (hopefully open on saturday) or should I wait? It really hurts and feels like it is burning. If I do try to find a clinic, is a normal dentist clinic ok or do I need an oral surgery clinic? Any advice help is greatly appreciated. Also I didnt smoke or spit or drink from a straw however

I did throw up a few times on the way home from the dentist, don't know if that did anything?

I called the place where I got it done, a recorded message says to please call back during normal business hours (mon-fri) then the phone hangs up on you...

Most hospitals have oral surgeons on call.... go to the ER. The longer you wait, the longer it will take for you to feel better.........

*The office should have an emergency # to call when the office is closed*

Do not attempt to put anything in the hole left by the extracted teeth yourself! Let a professional do it.

Best of luck!

General dentists and Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeons (OMS) both go to four years of dental school after college. The difference is that after earning their doctorate OMS train for another 4-6 years to become surgeons of the mouth, jaws and face. Surgical removal of wisdom teeth is a very common surgery that OMS perform. Still, their are some general dentists who remove wisdom teeth. Usually the dentist would examine you, take the x-ray and then decide whether to refer you to an OMS or not. Usually the OMS would put you to sleep to get it out. If you trust your dentist and he has recieved proper training then you might opt to have him do the surgery.

what type of perscriptions did they give you when you got your teeth taken out. when i got my teeth taken out they put me on vicodin for the pain which helped a lot. but you would have to consult with a dentist or oral sugeon before you do that. I would recommend going to a dentist or try contacting the oral surgeon at his home.

buy any topical anathseia gel now,
try to push it in the socket
if the pain disappear 100%
its a dry socket & your dentist will put dressing inside
if not be sure u r taking the antibiotic

Your symptoms, while uncomfortable and painful sound normal. Your oral surgeon should have an answering service 24/7. They can contact him/her and he/she should get back to you so that you can discuss how you can fell better. Give the office a call. Hope you feel better.

HELLO,
USUALLY THE PAIN BECOMES MUCH LESS AFTER THE EXTRACTIONS. FROM EVERYTHING YOUR DESCRIBING, A DRY SOCKET MAY BE THE CAUSE. HAVE ANY ORAL SURGEON SEE YOU TODAY.
A DRY SOCKET IS CAUSED WHEN THE HEALING BLOOD CLOT IS LOST AND THERE ARE A VARIETY OF WAYS THIS COULD BE LOST.

you can always go to the emergency room at any hospital...they can give you a prescribed pain killer if that's what you are needing for the pain...then you can go to the place that pulled the teeth when they are open...you shouldn't wait to get it taken care of...the emergency room personnel can also tell you if you have a high-grade infection that needs attention as well...
