Both of these are ILECS (imbedded local exchange carrier) and they do not offer wired service in the same area. You will have one or the other but not a choice of these two.

A CLEC (competitive local exchange carrier) may offer wired service as a competitor to an ILEC but two ILECS do not operate in the same area.

Do not confuse long distance service from ILECS as this is different. You can have Verizon as an ILEC (if Verizon is your ILEC) and use QWEST long distance.
