I'm not an atheist, but I hold myself accountable for my actions. After all, what I do, say, and think is my choice. Therefore, all responsibility lies with me.

I'm accountable to myself. I have a conscience that tells me when I've done something wrong, but more importantly, pride in myself and my very existence tells me not to do things that are wrong. I do believe there are universal wrongs that we are born knowing... don't kill, don't take things that aren't yours, don't hurt other humans.

I don't need an unseen, malicious being to threaten me with burning for eternity to keep me from breaking my own moral code.

I find it sad that the majority of people on earth DO need that in order to be good people. Saying, "it would make god angry if I do this" is a very sad reason to not do something. How about "I won't do this because it's wrong." That's where I stand and how I'm raising my son.

For starters, I certainly do not hold myself accountable to any of the various imaginary deities our superstitious ancestors worshiped.

I do hold myself accountable to the laws of the nation, state, and county I live in. I also hold myself accountable to the essential values of my culture and behave accordingly. I think it is important for you to appreciate that I consider reality to be the physical realm and that I give no credence to the "spiritual realm" imagined to exist by those who believe their own thoughts are real. Even though I am a scientist and not a solipsist, I do have good morals. My morals come from the culture I actually inhabit, not from the superstitions of our ignorant ancient ancestors.

Well, since you need an idea of god to say that there isn't a god, I would say atheists base their actions accountable to those who brought up the useless subject of god in the first place. I'm not atheist, I'm not agnostic, I don't believe there is a god, the whole thing is irrelevant.

Oh, you mean besides me? No one. I am accountable for whatever good and bad things I do. It's called having a conscience.

hi think you will find that most atheist believe in the golden rule. do unto others as you would have others do unto you. its quite simple, as i would not like to be killed so i should not kill, i don't want my property stolen so i should not still. the list goes on but im sure you get the message.so you are accountable to yourself.

I'm not an Atheist, and I don't believe in some all seeing God... I believe in the universe, in a higher power - perhaps you call that God, but I don't believe salvation, good fortune or any such actions come from this one being.

Whatever one's belief, each must be accountable to oneself.

Shakespeare put it well:'to thine own self be true,
And it must follow, as the night the day,
Thou canst not then be false to any man'.

Nobody. It's like we're free to mind our own business ( while other's are in jail, I guess)

why would an intelligent adult want to be accountable to anyone. Do you need constant supervision or are you capable of running your own business?
