Depends, some get more, some get less.

Officers get less then what they would on the outside.

With Enlisted it depends on rank and job/MOS. For example, a cook generally gets paid more in the Army, but a analysist gets less then they could in the civilian world.

You can always go to the Transition Assitance Program (TAP) office and find out there (they may call it something else). When I enlisted in the Navy before I left the service I went to TAP class, there they gave me paperwork that said how much my Military job including all the schooling and my rate/rank was worth in the civilian world. Ask the command you are stationed at about this program (like I said it may be called something different).

The same way you compare anything. You look at both numbers and see what they are. For examply you would look at the pay that a civilian police officer makes and the pay that a military police officer makes. You can look at the average for all people in both categories or you can compare years of service for each category.

You don't get paid to murder or torture as a civilian.
