Don't bother asking them. I doubt they know themselves what a Christian is. All they know is that in their minds, you're not one.

What I find interesting is that most people who identify themselves as 'Fundamentalists' have no idea what the word means.
I believe it was back in the 1920's or 1930's a group of some like-minded theologians got together to discuss what they might consider to be the 'Fundamental' beliefs one MUST hold in order to be a good Christian. They came up with five points, if memory serves, and declared that those who agree with these five points are ALL FUNDAMENTALISTS.
Now it's been a long while since I read this stuff, but I recall thinking at the time: Hey! The Roman Catholic Church agrees with each of these five points! Therefore the Roman Catholic Church is a Fundamentalist Denomination! I argued this point with a good many Fundamentalist Pastors, Ministers, Theologians and educated Layment back in the old days, and they sure got flustered, red in the face, and ANGRY!!! But it was sure fun!

Ask a Catholic whether they are saved, and you'll get the answer, "not yet." They have a different view of salvation than fundamentalists do. Fundamentalists consider themselves as entering into a personal relationship with Jesus Christ, where Catholics enter their relationship with Jesus through the Church.
Another point to consider is that Catholics avoid hell through a sufficiently holy life, and fundamentalists supposedly do not merit heaven on their own. However, for a little while they both believe the same thing about unbaptized babies, who "automatically" attain heaven if they die.

I am making this disclaimer:
I have been a former Catholic who has attended many masses at different Catholic churches and none of those made any notion that you need to accept Jesus are Lord and Savior. I have seen and know the doctrine of the Catholic church does not line up with the Bible they claim they wrote and put together.
I have seen Catholic who said I could not be a true Christian if I was not going to the "One Holy Apostolic Church."
What hypocrisy.
Now, the last thing that irks me is when "Christians" begin to classify different factions in their own sect. "Fundamentalist, Creationists, just to name a couple. Does anyone wonder why unity is so difficult to create when we see others like this.
Now, as far as the first question:
1. accept Jesus as Lord and Savior. If He is your Lord, you are to honor and obey Him with all you have.
"If you love Me, you will obey my commandments.
2. Obedience.
3. Holy Spirit
4. Relationship. If you don't have a relationship, you better get it right with God. That is why He created us, to have a relationship.

Who so ever believe in Lord Jesus Christ as the saviour and repent from sins and realise by birth we are sinners, and confess to Lord Jesus and receive Him as Saviour and Lord and take immersion Baptism will start a first step in christian life. Christianity is not a religion, but living like Christ, walking in Lords foot steps. And following the Bible, Because Bible is Word of God.

The book of Acts tells one how to become a Christian. Any other way is as a thief and robber. It is only through Jesus as the book of Acts prescribes that one is obedient. It is much more than having an abiding faith in Jesus because Satan did that and was not saved. We must follow the rules like a race, as Paul says, and participate legally - under the rules.
People believe the Catholic church is wrong because they do not follow the rules laid down in the book of Acts. They add very much to the Bible, thus making it incomplete because it has excess and has been added to it man's opinions.
Revelation says not to add these things and not to take away from the Word.
The Catholic church is correct. They are remnants of the church that was built on the first day of Pentecost after the crucifixion of Jesus. They fell away within 200 years and began to have a chief elder that finally became the pope. A pope is contrary to the Bible. Infant baptism is contrary to the Bible because a baby does not believe that God is and is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him (a requirement before one can be scriptural baptism.) The universal church (that is what Catholic means) fell away because of the things they added to the simple gospel of Jesus the Christ.
Just trusting Jesus in your heart and asking Him into your heart will not be enough. You must do the will of the Father. You must seek after Him and seek to do the things we are told to do for salvation. He does not come into your heart until you complete the beginning of your obedience to Him. You can pray for a million years, and if that is all you do, He will never come to live in your heart, but you/I must do what we are told to enter the kingdom and to remain steadfast, unmovable, always abiding in Him.
Do you hate me because I tell you the truth of what the Bible says? You are free to do that. As for me, I will attempt to obey the complete instructions for a person to be saved in the Christian dispensation.

No it is not enough you must also repent and turn away from personal sinfulness and make your faith a living faith by good works too, which is something that some of the nastier fundies on here fail to do by hating their neighbor,a direct disobedience to the Gospel, so by this we can see that some fundies are in the cult mindset but not all.

Jesus said, you must be born-again. That happens when you truly repent of all your sin and receive Jesus Christ as your Lord and savior.
As for your other question..the bible is "fundamental" to the Christian life.

Catholics are the first Christians. So it's ironic if other breakaway Christian denominations feel we're not Christian. What's unChristian about following Christ the way He asked us to follow Him?

Velvet.....
Good Question.... BUT... You ... Did NOT Define ... "Accepting"..... Jesus as Savior and LORD... as Jesus did... here.....
(John 7:38-39) He who believes on Me, = = as the Scripture has said, = = "Out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water."
(John 7:39) (But He spoke this about the Spirit, which they who believed on Him should receive; for the Holy Spirit was not yet given, because Jesus was not yet glorified.)
= = as the Scripture has said, = =
You believe what the Catholic Church.... says MORE... than the Scriptures.... as I was Once a Catholic.. and did the Same!
Since being BORN AGAIN.... John 3:3-to-7... I now Understand the Scriptures...!
Do you Pray to MARY... saying the 'Hail Marys?'
Hear what THE SCRIPTURE SAYS...
(1Timothy 2:5) For God is one, and there is one Mediator of God and of men, the Man Christ Jesus,
NOW.... you believe that Mary will ... SPEAK TO JESUS... FOR YOU! NOT!
Email me for More...!
Thanks, RR
