Basically what he is saying is that you need to be corrupt and "christian" to be elected in the U.S..
I agree and disagree. I think that, yes, the vast majority of politicians are corrupt-they work in their own self-interests and in the interests of those who are high paying lobbiers. I am an optimist enough, however, to believe that a small number are truly trying to do their best for their constituents. Those are not the people however that have positions of high power comparitively in the political arena.
The christian part is almost 100% true. We have the first muslim elected here and I believe there may be a handful of other "faiths" represented in politics across the U.S. But you will not see an outspoken atheist elected anytime soon in my opinion. Which is quite unfortunate in my opinion.

Richard Dawkins is saying that the current trend on the belief of the true nature of the universe is held with monotheistic drivel, and that any other opposing view which does not hold such arrogant views will be looked upon as abhorrently different. It's a bashing of the intelligent in favor of the ignorant. I am not Raelian, but I certainly *do* believe in a future geniocracy. (Geniocracy- rule by intelligence, first coined by Claude Vorilhon) . I think I will watch this in all parts in its entirety. Anyone saying otherwise in this answer forum isn't getting it.

Very sad. I had not thought about those ramifications. Yes, it would seem to be politic suicide to for a candidate to say that they accepted evolution as the proven scientific theory that it is.
The majority is a good thing in ways, but in order to vote people should that the responsibility to be educated and continue to educate themselves throughout life.
Edit:
Note the point is not so much about atheist versus Christian, but evolution versus Creationist denial of science (or the gullibility of the average Christian just accepting the lies that they are told by creationists).

He seems to be concerned with the more intelligent crowd if America, the atheists. It's proven that atheists are smarter than theists, so don't say that's not true, but of course there are smarter theists than atheists and visa versa. He's saying atheists need to lie in order to get into office, and it has probably happened. He seems to be saying that the ignorant people in office are destroying our intelligence with BS remarks about their beliefs, and making decisions that were from God.
Just my take on it.

I think it's ridiculous. He assumes that all religious people are not intelligent, scientific or honest. Dawkins also assumes that no religious person would ever vote for an atheist. I don't agree. I think he should worry about the mess his own country is in...especially since he admitted the USA is the greatest country in the world.

Seems about right, in the current climate. Is the war really over? Did ignorance and fear really win? I hope not. I hope we can still change this horrible turn of events...
