My son's and I's command sponsorship recently got approved. We are to be going to alaska, where my husband is stationed. I just wanted to know how long it usually takes to get the orders.

we will be getting our orders on the 15th. and we don't HAVE to live on base. they would like you, but i'm not waiting 2 years to move up there. they have the money to get us up there. so we will be leaving soon. not all bases MAKE you stay on base

since you are going to Alaska, it's actually less complicated than say you were going to Japan or Germany. you still need to do an overseas screening, which is nothing more than a checklist for medical. Then you wait for orders to come in, arrange to have your HHG packed up and shipped, and then arrange to get up there. you actually may have several options including the Ferry if you don't want to fly.

you will want to SERIOUSLY consider getting a tourist Passport. I mean Canada is right there, and Russia is close by too. otherwise, if you ever had to get back to t e States, your only option would be flying, as PP are needed to re enter CONUS from land.

ETA: my orders came in less than 2 weeks. Yours..could take 6 months. I know people who waited that long. depends on whether or not the gaining command A has the money to bring you up right away and B if they require housing to be secured before you get there. If there is a wait list to get into housing, and they require you to live in base housing, you won;t be going until your name comes up in the housing list.

Well I'm not exactly sure what or where you are asking for?

You should receive orders soon from hubby/the unit with your name(s )on it then you can go to transportation and set up an appointment to ship your stuff; get your passport (if needed), plane tickets, hubby can get on the housing list, etc. But you MUST have the orders with your name on them and a Power of Attorney.

A few more details would help.
