No. It's not dangerous. Just be careful what you d/l. Music files cannot contain virii. Exe files and DLLs can.
Limewire uses the Gnutella network and is good for single songs. It averages ~100KBs per song.
eMule uses the eDonkey/KAD network and is terribly slow (under 30KBs, sometimes 2KBs)but has some of the best rare music
Torrents are fast (~100KBs to 400KBs)
NNTP is Usenet which I am not very familiar with
Freenet is also an option, but it is not quite as easy for a beginner, and you will be offended by some of the content. Freenet is not for the timid. It is the sordid underbelly of the Internet.

Here are a few tips for Limewire, go into tools then options in the menu and configure Limewire to the following. Set your uploads to 0 speed so no one can upload anything to you, hit connections then uncheck connect on startup so you are not always connected to it then in file menu when you start hit connect and disconnect when you are done. Always look at the size of the file you are downloading, if it looks far too big chances are it's dodgy. Choose images or audio rather than look at all files when you search. And the files with the largest numbers next to it are the best ones because its what others are downoading. If you are downloading music I find its best to hover over the track and find the proper album version of the track. Oh and avoid downloading porn of there as thats where most of the viruses hide. Follow all these steps and you should avoid virus on there. Hope I've been a help.

Any music you download for free is dangerous. Limewire is dangerous because you can get viruses from it, which means people will be able to look at everything you do on the computer, it's file sharing, so if someone has a virus on their computer you'll receive it.

Limewire isn't dangerous, but the stuff that is downloaded via Limewire can be. p2p networks like Gnutella (on which Limewire works) are the storehouse of thousands of viruses and other forms of malware, so there is a good chance that you download a virus in place of something else that you were looking for. Keep that in mind, and avoid getting songs and movies for free.

Why are you people telling this person that a music file cannot get a virus? A virus can hide in any file on your computer. Anything from an app .exe or a .zip file. Doesn't matter, a virus or any other malicious content can be gotten off any P2P site.
To answer the second question.................
Take a look at the guidelines. Go to Download.com and get some good Indie stuff. There is a lot of free music that you can download and it is virus free.

in the internet there are thousands of ways you can download music and all kinds of other stuf. If you want to only download spacific songs and not hole albums then you can use limewire.
It is much better to use something like u torrent or bittorent if you want to download films albums games or aps. if you want to download using bittorent, you simply go on www.bittorrent.com and click on "get bittorrent" in the top right corner and download the file. then never go on that site again as it costs money to download stuff from there. rather go on a site like www.demonoid.com and login as
Username: SISB
Password:Mandela
then you go on torrents and download whatever you want.
i hope i was able to help you.
best regards

Not really. I've had had a lot of fun downloading music I've been searching hard for and its all for free! To be safe make sure that your computer is equipped with an Anti-Virus Software like Norton or McAffee. One of these should be enough.
