i have visitation rights of my 8yr old son but i want to file for joint custody. my case is handled at maywood courthouse 4th district. everytime i go to court the judge never takes anything i say seriously. my ex stands in front of him and tells all these lies and the judge sits there and smiles at her and tells her not to worry. when he turns and looks at me you can see it in his face that he has made his judgement about me. my son is being mentally and physically abused by his step dad. i have brought it up to the judge and he turns to my ex wife and tells her "you know that no child should be hit?" and of course she says "yes i know that" so of course the judge took her word. i am not getting a fair hearing with this judge and i need to know where or how can i file for a new judge? and before anyone says go to dcfs, i have already and it seems like they dont do anything. it hurts me when my son says when he can come live with me and i cant give him answer. please help

Get a lawyer represented by these people. They don't have the emotional baggage you are currently carrying and can streamline your needs. I'm using them now - my child support just got raised 150% and the ex is really gunning for me. I'm filing full custody on grounds that her co-parenting skills are nonexistent.

if you move, you can ask to have the case transferred to a court near to your house.

I agree with Box of rain, who responded above. Get a good attorney, the best you can afford. Let him/her handle it.
