It's partly the area around the groin and partly in the groin. It's very hard and tender. About the size of a large marble. My doctor is male and I'm to embarrassed to go to him about it. Any idea what it could be or how I can get it to go away myself?

Sounds like an enlarged gland. You're not very specific about where it is though. If it's next to the opening of your vagina, it might be an infected bartholin's (hope I remember that spelling correctly) gland. If it's elsewhere it might be a lymph gland. Either way you need to see the doctor as it can be caused by infection or by something more sinister.. don't ignore it. Find a female doctor.

Here are some of my ideas
1. It could be an ingrowing hair that's got infected
2. It could be a spot under the skin
3. It could be a swollen gland.
Its really worth having it checked out. Ask to see a nurse or a female doctor at the practise, but remember even male drs have seen it all, and much much worse before.
good luck peacex

When you have a lump don't feel embarrassed about going to see your doctor whether they are male or female. You can have a nurse come in as a chaperone if you can't get a female doctor as long as you can get it diagnosed and dealt with what does it matter if they are male or female. I had what turned out to be a cyst checked out by a male doctor and didn't care all I wanted was it sorted out, its their job.

There are a number of possibilities for what could be causing this but the only way to find out for sure what is going on is to have your doctor evaluate the situation further. Because of your embarrassment you can request an appt with a female partner if he has one working with him that can evaluate this situation further for you.

Definitely go to the doc. I had one of these one time and it was just a very deeply ingrown hair. Better to get it checked out, though!

If you're not comfortable with your male doctor, find a female! You shouldn't compromise your health because you're uncomfortable with your provider.

It is very dangerous to guess about lumps, without seeing or examining them. Options include, abscess, gland and hernia. Go see your GP! He will have seen more groins than you have had hot dinners!
